He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

He will stand before the priest Eleazar who will consult the LORD for him with the decision of the Urim. He and all the Israelites with him, even the entire community, will go out and come back in at his command.”

以烏陵土明置於黼掛、亞倫覲我耶和華時、必服之膺前、為以色列族鑑察事理於我前、恆久不輟。○

問於耶和華、耶和華不答、亦不以夢寐、烏陵、先知而示。

以色列族惟視其糧、不諮諏耶和華。

牧伯曰、所獻之物、彼不可食、越至於後、有祭司興、能別烏陵土明、言可食則可食。

亞希米勒為之問耶和華、且供以食、又賜以非利士人坷利亞刃。王召祭司亞希突子亞希米勒、與其父家、既挪伯諸祭司、咸至王前。掃羅曰、亞希突子、宜聽我言。對曰、我主、吾在此。掃羅曰、爾與耶西之子謀攻我、汝贈以刃、供以餅、為之諮詢上帝、使其今日伏以攻我、曷故。亞希米勒對曰、大闢乃王之壻、尊於爾家、遵命而行、爾臣僕中、孰忠如之。我為之諮詢上帝、豈始於此乎。王斷勿歸罪於僕、及我父之家、蓋此事、無論鉅細、我俱不知。

曰、可往攻之。以色列族強厥志、陳列行伍、仍於前日列陳之所、

出入於民前、為民先導、免致耶和華會眾猶羊之無牧。

謂祭司亞希米勒子亞庇亞塔曰、請攜公服以至。亞庇亞塔攜公服至。

其論利未則曰、願敬虔者得爾烏陵土明、昔在馬撒、爾嘗試之、在米利巴水、爾嘗爭之、

大闢知掃羅蓄謀害己、遂命祭司亞庇亞塔、攜公服至此、

俱至伯特利、問於上帝、曰、我中誰可先攻便雅憫族。耶和華曰、猶大可先往。

約書亞既沒、以色列族問於耶和華曰、孰可先往、代我攻迦南人。

牧伯曰、所獻之物、彼不可食、越至於後有祭司興、能別烏陵土明言可食則可食。

以色列族億兆、至於伯特利哭泣、坐於耶和華前禁食、待及薄暮、以燔祭酬恩祭獻於耶和華。當時上帝之約匱在彼、亞倫孫、以利亞撒子非尼哈立於其前、以色列族問於耶和華曰、我儕復攻同儕便雅憫族、或往乎、或止乎。耶和華曰、往哉、明日我將以之付於爾手。

亦賜黼掛、置烏陵土明於其中、
