摩西对亚伦说：“拿你的香炉，把祭坛的火盛在里面，加上香，赶快带到会众那里，为他们赎罪。因为有愤怒从耶和华面前发出，瘟疫已经开始了。”亚伦照摩西所说的拿了香炉，跑到会众中。看哪，瘟疫已经在百姓中开始了。他就加上香，为百姓赎罪。他站在活人和死人之间，瘟疫就止住了。

大卫在那里为耶和华筑了一座坛，献燔祭和平安祭。耶和华垂听了为那地的祈求，瘟疫就在以色列中停止了。

大卫对阿珥楠说：“你把这禾场的地方给我，照着十足的价钱卖给我，我好在其上为耶和华筑一座坛，使瘟疫在百姓中停止。”

于是摩西对以色列的审判官说：“你们的人若有与巴力‧毗珥联合的，你们各人就要把他们杀了。”

他们这样行，惹耶和华发怒，就有瘟疫流行在他们中间。那时，非尼哈起而干预，瘟疫这才止息。那就算他为义，世世代代，直到永远。

“亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，使我的愤怒转离以色列人，因为在他们中间，他以我的妒忌为他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毁灭以色列人。
