『以色列是被打散的羊，有獅子把他趕逐了：首先是亞述王將他吞滅，末後是他的骨頭被巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒啃斷了。

看哪，這族起來、彷彿母獅，他挺着身好像公獅；未曾喫所抓撕的，未曾喝被刺死者的血，他是決不躺着的。』

因為你看，我必激動一班大國，使他們從北方之地上來、攻擊巴比倫；他們必擺陣攻擊她；就從那裏她就要被攻取；他們的箭如同善戰的勇士，總不空回。

我直呼救到早晨；他像獅子折斷我所有的骨頭，無論白晝黑夜他總把我放棄。

『永恆主你的上帝領你進入你正要去而取得為業之地，從你面前肅清了許多國的人、就是赫人、革迦撒人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人、七國的人，都比你多、比你強；

你必使他們轉背逃跑；你必拉弓瞄準，而射他們的臉。

王下了令，人就把那些誣衊控告但以理的人、連他們的兒女和妻子、都帶了來，扔在獅子坑中；他們還沒有到坑底，獅子便撲着他們，把他們的骨頭咬碎了。

『「我必將災禍加在他們身上，把我的箭向他們射盡。

我必讓我的箭醉飲鮮血、就是被刺死者和俘虜的血；我的刀必喫肉，喫仇敵的長毛頭目。」

就說壞話攻擊上帝和摩西說：『你們為甚麼把我們從埃及領上來，讓我們死在這曠野呢？這裏沒有食物、沒有水；這淡薄的食物，我們的胃口都憎厭了。』
