摩西稱那地方為瑪撒和米利巴，因為百姓在那裡吵鬧，又試探耶和華，說：「耶和華真的在我們當中嗎？」

不可像你們祖先在米利巴，在曠野的瑪撒那樣心裡頑固。

摩西祝福利未支派說：「耶和華啊，求你把土明和烏陵賜給虔誠的利未人，你曾經在瑪撒試驗他們，在米利巴泉邊與他們爭論。

他們在米利巴泉邊惹耶和華發怒，連累了摩西。因為他們惹摩西發怒，以致他說了魯莽的話。他們沒有照耶和華的命令消滅外族人，反倒與他們混居，仿效他們的習俗，拜他們的神像，陷入網羅。他們把自己的兒女當祭物獻給鬼魔，他們把自己的兒女獻給迦南的神像作祭物，流他們兒女無辜的血，玷污了那地方。他們的行為玷污了自己，使自己淪為淫婦。耶和華因此向祂的子民發怒，厭惡他們，使他們落在列邦的手中，受敵人的轄制。他們的敵人壓迫他們，奴役他們。祂多次拯救他們，他們卻執意背叛，陷入罪中不能自拔。但祂聽見他們在苦難中呼求時，仍然眷顧他們。祂沒有忘記與他們立的約，因祂偉大無比的愛而憐憫他們。祂使擄掠他們的人憐憫他們。我們的上帝耶和華啊，求你拯救我們，從各國招聚我們，使我們可以稱謝你的聖名，歡然讚美你。以色列的上帝耶和華永永遠遠當受稱頌。願萬民都說：「阿們！」你們要讚美耶和華！

因為在荀曠野，在加低斯的米利巴泉旁，你和亞倫對我不忠，沒有在以色列人中尊我為聖。

歌革啊，你必如密雲一樣遮天蔽日，前來攻擊我的以色列子民。將來，我要領你來攻擊我的土地，我要在列國面前藉著你彰顯我的聖潔，使他們認識我。』

我要使我偉大的名，就是你們在列國中所褻瀆的名，彰顯它的聖潔。我要當著列國的面在你們身上彰顯我的聖潔，那時他們就知道我是耶和華。這是主耶和華說的。

唯有萬軍之耶和華因祂的公正而受尊崇，聖潔的上帝藉公義彰顯自己的聖潔。

當我把你們從列國領出來，從你們散居的列邦聚集起來時，你們必如馨香之祭一樣蒙我悅納，我必當著列國的面在你們中間彰顯我的聖潔。
