他們的所作所為觸怒耶和華，以致瘟疫降在他們中間，

摩西和以色列全體會眾正在會幕門口痛哭的時候，有個以色列人當著他們的面把一個米甸女子帶進自家的帳篷。亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，便起身離開會眾，拿著矛槍，跟著進入那人的帳篷，一槍刺透那對男女的腹部。以色列人當中的瘟疫馬上止住了，

摩西對亞倫說：「取香爐來，裡面放些壇上的火，添上香，趕快帶到會眾那裡為他們贖罪，因為耶和華發怒了，瘟疫已經開始。」

他們把你的典章傳授給雅各，把你的律法傳授給以色列；他們要把香獻在你面前，把全牲燔祭獻在你的壇上。耶和華啊，求你賜他們力量，悅納他們的工作，擊碎仇敵的腰桿，使敵人一蹶不振。」

但我告訴你們，要愛仇敵，為迫害你們的人禱告。

然而，祂被壓傷、受痛苦是耶和華的旨意；祂的性命作了贖罪祭，祂必看見自己的後裔，祂必長久活著。耶和華的旨意必在祂手中實現。祂必看見自己勞苦的成果，並心滿意足。耶和華說：「我公義的僕人必憑祂的知識使許多人被算為義人，祂要擔當他們的罪惡。我要使祂與偉人同享尊榮，跟強者同分戰利品，因為祂奉獻了自己的生命。祂被列在罪犯中，卻擔當了許多人的罪，又為罪人代求。」
