窺探那地的人中，嫩的兒子約書亞和耶孚尼的兒子迦勒撕裂衣服，對以色列全會眾說：「我們所走過、所窺探之地是極美之地。耶和華若喜愛我們，就必領我們進入那地，把這流奶與蜜之地賜給我們。但你們不可背叛耶和華，也不要怕那地的百姓，因為他們是我們的食物。保護他們的已經離開他們，耶和華卻與我們同在。不要怕他們！」

猶大人來到吉甲，約書亞那裏，基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒對約書亞說：「耶和華在加低斯‧巴尼亞指着我和你對神人摩西所說的話，你都知道。耶和華的僕人摩西從加低斯‧巴尼亞差派我窺探這地的時候，我剛四十歲。我把心裏的話向他報告。雖然同我上去的眾弟兄使百姓膽戰心驚，我仍然專心跟從耶和華－我的上帝。那日，摩西起誓說：『你腳所踏之地必要歸你和你的子孫永遠為業，因為你專心跟從耶和華－我的上帝。』現在，看哪，耶和華照他所說的使我活了這四十五年。當以色列人在曠野飄流的時候，耶和華曾對摩西說了這話。現在，看哪，我已經八十五歲了。現今我還很健壯，像摩西差派我去的那天一樣；無論是戰爭，是出入，我現在的力量和那時的力量一樣。請你將耶和華那日所說的這山區給我。那日你也曾聽說，這裏有亞衲族人，以及寬大堅固的城，或許耶和華會照他所說的與我同在，我就把他們趕出去。」於是約書亞為耶孚尼的兒子迦勒祝福，把希伯崙給他為業。所以希伯崙成了基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒的產業，直到今日，因為他專心跟從耶和華－以色列的上帝。

因為耶和華論到他們說：「他們必死在曠野。」所以，除了耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞以外，他們一個也沒有存留。

惟有耶孚尼的兒子迦勒必得看見，並且我要將他所踏過的地賜給他和他的子孫，因為他專心跟從我。』

不要只在人的眼前這樣做，像僅是討人的喜歡，而是作基督的僕人，從心裏遵行上帝的旨意，

耶和華－我們列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝啊，求你使你的百姓心中常存這樣的心思意念，堅定他們的心歸向你，

耶和華啊，我一心呼求你，求你應允我！我必謹守你的律例。

願我的心在你的律例上完全，使我不致蒙羞。

因這些人全心樂意獻給耶和華，百姓就歡喜，大衛王也大大歡喜。

我兒啊，要將你的心歸我，你的眼目也要喜愛我的道路。

你要盡心、盡性、盡力愛耶和華－你的上帝。

亞瑪謝行耶和華眼中看為正的事，只是沒有純正的心。

他到了那裏，看見上帝所賜的恩就歡喜，勸勉眾人要立定心志，恆久靠主。

『凡從埃及上來二十歲以上的人，斷不得看見我對亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許之地，因為他們沒有專心跟從我；惟有基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒，還有嫩的兒子約書亞可以看見，因為他們專心跟從耶和華。』

迦勒在摩西面前安撫百姓，說：「我們立刻上去得那地吧！我們必能征服它。」

你們無論做甚麼，都要從心裏做，像是為主做的，不是為人做的；
