那时，犹大人来到吉甲见约书亚，有基尼洗族耶孚尼的儿子迦勒对约书亚说：“耶和华在加低斯巴尼亚指着我与你对神人摩西所说的话，你都知道了。耶和华的仆人摩西从加低斯巴尼亚打发我窥探这地，那时我正四十岁；我按着心意回报他。然而，同我上去的众弟兄使百姓的心消化；但我专心跟从耶和华我的神。当日摩西起誓说：‘你脚所踏之地定要归你和你的子孙永远为业，因为你专心跟从耶和华我的神。’自从耶和华对摩西说这话的时候，耶和华照他所应许的使我存活这四十五年；其间以色列人在旷野行走。看哪，现今我八十五岁了，我还是强壮，像摩西打发我去的那天一样；无论是争战，是出入，我的力量那时如何，现在还是如何。求你将耶和华那日应许我的这山地给我；那里有亚衲族人，并宽大坚固的城，你也曾听见了。或者耶和华照他所应许的与我同在，我就把他们赶出去。”于是约书亚为耶孚尼的儿子迦勒祝福，将希伯仑给他为业。所以希伯仑作了基尼洗族耶孚尼的儿子迦勒的产业，直到今日，因为他专心跟从耶和华以色列的神。

因为耶和华论到他们说：“他们必要死在旷野。”所以，除了耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚以外，连一个人也没有存留。

惟有耶孚尼的儿子迦勒必得看见，并且我要将他所踏过的地赐给他和他的子孙，因为他专心跟从我。’

不要只在眼前侍奉，像是讨人喜欢的，要像基督的仆人，从心里遵行神的旨意。

耶和华我们列祖亚伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的神啊，求你使你的民常存这样的心思意念，坚定他们的心归向你，

耶和华啊，我一心呼吁你；求你应允我，我必谨守你的律例！

愿我的心在你的律例上完全，使我不致蒙羞。

因这些人诚心乐意献给耶和华，百姓就欢喜，大卫王也大大欢喜。

我儿，要将你的心归我；你的眼目也要喜悦我的道路。

你要尽心、尽性、尽力爱耶和华你的神。

亚玛谢行耶和华眼中看为正的事，只是心不专诚。

他到了那里，看见神所赐的恩就欢喜，劝勉众人，立定心志，恒久靠主。

‘凡从埃及上来、二十岁以外的人断不得看见我对亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓应许之地，因为他们没有专心跟从我。惟有基尼洗族耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚可以看见，因为他们专心跟从我。’

迦勒在摩西面前安抚百姓，说：“我们立刻上去得那地吧！我们足能得胜。”

无论做什么，都要从心里做，像是给主做的，不是给人做的，
