犹大人来到吉甲约书亚那里，基尼洗人耶孚尼的儿子迦勒对约书亚说：“耶和华在加低斯．巴尼亚对神人摩西所说关于你和我的话，你是知道的。耶和华的仆人摩西从加低斯．巴尼亚派我去窥探这地的时候，我正四十岁；我照着我心里所想的向他报告。可是，与我一同上去的众兄弟却使人民的心惊惧，我却完全顺从耶和华我的神。那天摩西起誓说：‘你的脚踏过的地都必归你和你的子孙作产业，直到永远，因为你完全顺从耶和华我的神。’现在你看，自从耶和华对摩西说了这话以后，耶和华照着所应许的，使我活了这四十五年，就是以色列人在旷野行走的时期；现在你看，我今日已经是八十五岁了。今日我还是强壮，像摩西派我去的那天一样；无论是作战，或是出入，那时我的力量怎样，现在我的力量还是怎样。现在求你把耶和华那日所应许的这山地赐给我；因为那天你也曾听见那里有亚衲人，又有宽大坚固的城；也许耶和华与我同在，我就可以把他们赶出去，正如耶和华所应许的。”于是约书亚给迦勒祝福，把希伯仑赐给了耶孚尼的儿子迦勒作产业。因此，希伯仑成了基尼洗人耶孚尼的儿子迦勒的产业，直到今日；因为他完全顺从耶和华以色列的神。

因为耶和华论到他们曾经说过：“他们必死在旷野。”所以除了耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚以外，连一个也没有剩下。

只有耶孚尼的儿子迦勒可以看见；并且我要把他踏过的地赐给他和他的子孙，因为他专心跟从了我耶和华。’

作事不要只作给人看，像那些讨人欢心的一样，却要像基督的仆人，从心里遵行神的旨意，

耶和华我们列祖亚伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的神啊，求你永远保守这一件事，就是使你的子民常存这心思意念，坚定他们的心归向你。

耶和华啊！我一心呼求你，求你应允我；我必遵守你的律例。

愿我的心在你的律例上无可指摘，使我不至蒙羞。

人民因这些人自愿奉献而欢喜，因为他们一心乐意奉献给耶和华，大卫王也非常欢喜。

我儿，把你的心给我；你的眼目要关注我的道路。

你要全心、全性、全力爱耶和华你的神。

亚玛谢行耶和华看为正的事，只是心不专一。

他到了那里，看见神所施的恩，就很欢喜，劝勉众人坚心靠主。

‘从埃及上来二十岁及以上的人，必不得看见我对亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓应许的地，因为他们没有专心跟从我。唯独基尼洗人耶孚尼的儿子迦勒，和嫩的儿子约书亚可以看见，因为他们专心跟从耶和华。’

迦勒在摩西面前使众人镇静，说：“我们立刻上去，占领那地吧！因为我们必能得胜。”

无论你们作什么，都要从心里去作，象是为主作的，不是为人作的，
