耶和华的怒气又向以色列发作，激起大卫来对付他们，说：“去，数点以色列人和犹大人。”

摩西对亚伦说：“拿你的香炉，把祭坛的火盛在里面，加上香，赶快带到会众那里，为他们赎罪。因为有愤怒从耶和华面前发出，瘟疫已经开始了。”亚伦照摩西所说的拿了香炉，跑到会众中。看哪，瘟疫已经在百姓中开始了。他就加上香，为百姓赎罪。他站在活人和死人之间，瘟疫就止住了。除了因可拉事件死的以外，遭瘟疫死的共有一万四千七百人。

遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。

他们说：“希伯来人的神已向我们显现了。求你让我们往旷野去，走三天的路程，向耶和华我们的神献祭，免得他用瘟疫、刀剑攻击我们。”
