“你去告诉大卫，说耶和华如此说：‘我有三样灾，随你选择一样，我好降与你。’”于是迦得来见大卫，对他说：“你愿意国中有七年的饥荒呢？是在你敌人面前逃跑，被追赶三个月呢？是在你国中有三日的瘟疫呢？现在你要揣摩思想，我好回复那差我来的。”大卫对迦得说：“我甚为难！我愿落在耶和华的手里，因为他有丰盛的怜悯。我不愿落在人的手里。”于是，耶和华降瘟疫与以色列人，自早晨到所定的时候；从但直到别是巴，民间死了七万人。

耶和华又向以色列人发怒，就激动大卫，使他吩咐人去数点以色列人和犹大人。

摩西对亚伦说：“拿你的香炉，把坛上的火盛在其中，又加上香，快快带到会众那里，为他们赎罪；因为有忿怒从耶和华那里出来，瘟疫已经发作了。”亚伦照着摩西所说的拿来，跑到会中，不料，瘟疫在百姓中已经发作了。他就加上香，为百姓赎罪。他站在活人死人中间，瘟疫就止住了。除了因可拉事情死的以外，遭瘟疫死的，共有一万四千七百人。

那时遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。

他们说：“希伯来人的神遇见了我们。求你容我们往旷野去，走三天的路程，祭祀耶和华我们的神，免得他用瘟疫、刀兵攻击我们。”
