「以色列啊，你要聽！你今日要過約旦河，進去佔領比你更強大的列國，那裏的城鎮又大，城牆又堅固，如天一樣高。那裏的百姓是亞衲族人，又高又壯，是你所知道的；你也聽說過：『誰能在亞衲族人面前站立得住呢？』

我們上哪裏去呢？我們的弟兄使我們膽戰心驚，說那裏的百姓比我們又大又高，那裏的城鎮又大，城牆又堅固，如天一樣高，並且我們在那裏看見亞衲族人。』

我們在那裏看見巨人，就是巨人中的亞衲族人。我們在自己眼中像蚱蜢一樣，而在他們眼中，我們也確是這樣。」

先前，以米人住在那裏，百姓又大又多，像亞衲人一樣高大。他們跟亞衲人一樣，也算是利乏音人，但摩押人卻稱他們為以米人。

迦勒從那裏趕出亞衲的三族，就是亞衲族的示篩人、亞希幔人和撻買人。

這些堅固的城都有高的城牆，有門有閂，此外，還有許多無城牆的鄉村。

以色列人的地中沒有留下一個亞衲族人，只有一些還留在迦薩、迦特和亞實突。

那裏的百姓又大又多，像亞衲人一樣高大，但耶和華從亞捫人面前除滅他們，亞捫人就佔領他們的地，接續他們在那裏居住。

他們從尼革夫上去，到了希伯崙。在那裏有亞衲族的亞希幔人、示篩人和撻買人。希伯崙的建造比埃及的瑣安早七年。他們到了以實各谷，從那裏砍下葡萄樹枝，上面有一掛葡萄，兩個人用槓抬着，又帶了一些石榴和無花果。

以色列人照摩西所說的，把希伯崙給了迦勒。迦勒從那裏趕出亞衲的三支後裔。
