第一日，你们要拿美好树上的果子、棕树枝、树叶茂密的枝条和河边的柳枝，在耶和华—你们的神面前欢乐七日。每年你们要向耶和华守这节七日。你们在七月里所守的节，要成为世世代代永远的定例。你们要住在棚里七日；凡以色列家出生的人都要住在棚里，好叫你们世世代代知道，我领以色列人出埃及地的时候，曾使他们住在棚里。我是耶和华—你们的神。”

这时犹太人的住棚节近了。

雅各就往疏割去，在那里为自己盖房屋，又为牲畜搭棚，因此那地方叫疏割。

上来攻击耶路撒冷的列国中所有剩下的人，要年年上来敬拜大君王—万军之耶和华，并守住棚节。地上万族中，凡不上耶路撒冷敬拜大君王—万军之耶和华的，雨必不降在他们的地上。埃及族若不上来，雨必不降在他们的地上；凡不上来守住棚节的列国，耶和华必用这灾攻击他们。这就是埃及的惩罚和那些不上来守住棚节之列国的惩罚。
