Moreover, from the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, until his thirty-second year— twelve years— neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor.

And that’s not all. I was appointed as governor of Judah in the 20th year that Artaxerxes was king of Persia. I remained in that position until his 32nd year. During those 12 years, I and my relatives didn’t eat the food that was provided for my table.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the food allowance of the governor.

For the entire twelve years that I was governor of Judah— from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of the reign of King Artaxerxes— neither I nor my officials drew on our official food allowance.

Furthermore, from the day King Artaxerxes appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah— from the twentieth year until his thirty-second year, twelve years— I and my associates never ate from the food allotted to the governor.

Furthermore, since the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of King Artaxerxes, for twelve years, neither I nor my kinsmen have eaten the governor’s food allowance.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor’s provisions.

Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.

From the day that I was appointed governor in the land of Judah, that is, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes– twelve years in all– neither I nor my relatives ate the food allotted to the governor.

當這一切事發生的時候，我不在耶路撒冷，因為巴比倫王亞達薛西三十二年，我回到王那裏。過了多日，我又向王告假。

也從未白吃人的飯，倒是辛苦勞碌，晝夜做工，免得使你們中間有人受累。這並不是因我們沒有權柄，而是要給你們作榜樣，好讓你們效法我們。

亞達薛西王二十年尼散月，酒擺在王面前，我拿起酒來奉給王。我在王面前從來沒有愁容。

難道我們沒有權利靠着傳福音吃喝嗎？難道我們沒有權利帶着信主的妻子一起出入，如同其餘的使徒，和主的兄弟們，和磯法一樣嗎？只有我和巴拿巴沒有權利不做工嗎？有誰當兵而自備糧餉呢？有誰栽葡萄園而不吃園裏的果子呢？有誰牧養牛羊而不喝牛羊的奶呢？我說這些話豈是照一般人的看法？律法不也是這樣說嗎？就如摩西的律法記着：「牛在踹穀的時候，不可籠住牠的嘴。」難道神所掛念的是牛嗎？他不全是為我們說的嗎？的確是為我們說的！因為耕種的要存着指望去耕種；收割的也要存着分享穀物的指望去收割。我們既然把屬靈的種子撒在你們中間，若從你們收取養生之物，這還算大事嗎？假如別人在你們身上享有這權利，何況我們呢？然而，我們並沒有用過這權利，倒是凡事忍受，免得基督的福音受到阻礙。你們豈不知在聖殿供職的人吃聖殿中的食物嗎？在祭壇伺候的人分享壇上的供物嗎？主也是這樣命令，要傳福音的人靠着福音養生。但這權利我全然沒有用過。我寫這些話，並非要你們這樣待我，因為我寧可死也不讓人使我所誇的落了空。

這樣，我的賞賜是甚麼呢？就是我傳福音的時候，使人不花錢得福音，免得我用盡了傳福音的權利。

你們納糧也為這個緣故，因他們是神的僕役，專管這事。凡人所當得的，就給他。當得糧的，給他納糧；當得稅的，給他上稅；當懼怕的，懼怕他；當恭敬的，恭敬他。

如今請王知道，這城若再建造，城牆完工，他們就不再進貢、納糧、繳稅，王的國庫必受虧損。如今，我們吃的鹽既然全是宮廷的鹽，就不忍見王吃虧，因此奏告於王，
