Moreover, from the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, until his thirty-second year— twelve years— neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor.

And that’s not all. I was appointed as governor of Judah in the 20th year that Artaxerxes was king of Persia. I remained in that position until his 32nd year. During those 12 years, I and my relatives didn’t eat the food that was provided for my table.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the food allowance of the governor.

For the entire twelve years that I was governor of Judah— from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of the reign of King Artaxerxes— neither I nor my officials drew on our official food allowance.

Furthermore, from the day King Artaxerxes appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah— from the twentieth year until his thirty-second year, twelve years— I and my associates never ate from the food allotted to the governor.

Furthermore, since the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of King Artaxerxes, for twelve years, neither I nor my kinsmen have eaten the governor’s food allowance.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor’s provisions.

Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.

也没有白吃谁的饭，而是昼夜辛勤工作，免得成为你们任何人的负担。我们并不是没有权利接受供应，而是要给你们树立学习的榜样。

亚达薛西王二十年尼散月，酒呈到王面前后，我端起酒递给王。在王面前，我一向没有愁容。

难道我们没有权利接受弟兄姊妹供应的饮食吗？难道我们没有权利像主的兄弟、彼得和其他使徒一样，娶信主的姊妹为妻，一同出入吗？难道只有我和巴拿巴要自食其力吗？有谁当兵要自备粮饷呢？有谁栽种葡萄园，却不吃园中出产的葡萄呢？有谁牧养牛羊，却不喝牛羊的奶呢？我这样说难道只是人的观点吗？律法不也是这样说的吗？摩西的律法书上说：“牛在踩谷时，不可笼住它的嘴。”难道上帝关心的只是牛吗？祂这样说难道不是为了我们吗？这话的确是为我们写的，因为耕耘的和打谷的农夫都应该存着分享收成的盼望劳作。既然我们在你们中间撒下了属灵的种子，难道就不能从你们那里得到物质上的收获吗？如果别人有权要求你们供应他们，我们岂不更有权吗？可是我们从来没有用过这权利，反而凡事忍耐，免得妨碍了基督的福音。你们难道不知道，在圣殿里事奉的人可以吃圣殿里的食物，在祭坛前事奉的人可以分享祭坛上的祭物吗？同样，主也曾吩咐：传福音的人理当借着福音得到生活的供应。但是，我完全没有使用这权利，如今我谈这些事，并不是要你们这样待我。因为我宁死也不要让人抹杀我所夸耀的。

我能得到什么奖赏呢？就是我可以把福音白白地传给人，不使用自己因传福音而应有的权利。

你们纳税也是为了同样的缘故，因为官长是上帝的仆人，负责管理这类事务。凡是别人该得的，都要给他。该得米粮的，就纳粮给他；该得税款的，就缴税给他；该惧怕的，就惧怕他；该尊敬的，就尊敬他。

王该知道，如果这城建好，城墙完工，他们将不再进贡、交赋、纳税，王的税收必受亏损。我们既食王禄，就不能坐视王遭受损失，因此上奏于王。
