匠人立耶和華殿根基的時候，祭司皆穿禮服吹號，亞薩的子孫利未人敲鈸，照以色列王大衛所定的例，都站着讚美耶和華。他們彼此唱和，讚美稱謝耶和華說：他本為善，他向以色列人永發慈愛。他們讚美耶和華的時候，眾民大聲呼喊，因耶和華殿的根基已經立定。

他召眾祭司和利未人來，聚集在東邊的寬闊處，對他們說：「利未人哪，當聽我說：現在你們要潔淨自己，又潔淨耶和華－你們列祖神的殿，從聖所中除去污穢之物。我們列祖犯了罪，行耶和華－我們神眼中看為惡的事，離棄他，轉臉背向他的居所，封鎖廊門，吹滅燈火，不在聖所中向以色列神燒香，或獻燔祭。因此，耶和華的忿怒臨到猶大和耶路撒冷，將其中的人拋來拋去，令人驚駭、嗤笑，正如你們親眼所見的。所以我們的祖宗倒在刀下，我們的妻子兒女也被擄掠。現在我心中有意與耶和華－以色列的神立約，好使他的烈怒轉離我們。我的眾子啊，現在不要懈怠；因為耶和華揀選你們站在他面前事奉他，與他燒香。」

其餘的以色列人、祭司、利未人都住在猶大的一切城邑，各在自己的地業中。

你們要靠主常常喜樂。我再說，你們要喜樂。

希伯倫族中有耶利雅作族長。大衛作王第四十年，在基列的雅謝，從這族中尋得大能的勇士。

希幔、耶杜頓同着他們吹號、敲鈸，大發響聲，並用別的樂器隨着歌頌神。耶杜頓的子孫作守門的。

稱謝耶和華！歌頌你至高者的名！用十弦的樂器和瑟，用琴彈幽雅的聲音，早晨傳揚你的慈愛；每夜傳揚你的信實。這本為美事。

普天下當向耶和華歡呼！你們當樂意事奉耶和華，當來向他歌唱！

有人告訴大衛王說：「耶和華因為約櫃賜福給俄別‧以東的家和一切屬他的。」大衛就去，歡歡喜喜地將神的約櫃從俄別‧以東家中擡到大衛的城裏。

為首的是亞薩，其次是撒迦利雅、雅薛、示米拉末、耶歇、瑪他提雅、以利押、比拿雅、俄別‧以東、耶利，鼓瑟彈琴；惟有亞薩敲鈸，大發響聲；

有四千人作守門的，又有四千人用大衛所做的樂器頌讚耶和華。

從擄到之地歸回的全會眾就搭棚，住在棚裏。從嫩的兒子約書亞的時候直到這日，以色列人沒有這樣行。於是眾人大大喜樂。

全地都要向耶和華歡樂；要發起大聲，歡呼歌頌！要用琴歌頌耶和華，用琴和詩歌的聲音歌頌他！用號和角聲，在大君王耶和華面前歡呼！

要因他大能的作為讚美他，按着他極美的大德讚美他！要用角聲讚美他，鼓瑟彈琴讚美他！擊鼓跳舞讚美他！用絲弦的樂器和簫的聲音讚美他！用大響的鈸讚美他！用高聲的鈸讚美他！

對他們說：「你們是利未人的族長，你們和你們的弟兄應當自潔，好將耶和華－以色列神的約櫃擡到我所預備的地方。

你和你兒女、僕婢，並住在你城裏的利未人，以及在你們中間寄居的與孤兒寡婦，都要在耶和華－你神所選擇立為他名的居所，在耶和華－你的神面前歡樂。

你們當向神－我們的力量大聲歡呼，向雅各的神發聲歡樂！唱起詩歌，打手鼓，彈美琴與瑟。當在月朔並月望－我們過節的日期吹角，因這是為以色列定的律例，是雅各神的典章。

大衛和眾首領分派亞薩、希幔，並耶杜頓的子孫彈琴、鼓瑟、敲鈸、唱歌。他們供職的人數記在下面：亞薩的兒子撒刻、約瑟、尼探雅、亞薩利拉都歸亞薩指教，遵王的旨意唱歌。耶杜頓的兒子基大利、西利、耶篩亞、哈沙比雅、瑪他提雅、示每共六人，都歸他們父親耶杜頓指教，彈琴，唱歌，稱謝，頌讚耶和華。希幔的兒子布基雅、瑪探雅、烏薛、細布業、耶利摩、哈拿尼雅、哈拿尼、以利亞他、基大利提、羅幔提‧以謝、約施比加沙、瑪羅提、何提、瑪哈秀；這都是希幔的兒子，吹角頌讚。希幔奉神之命作王的先見。神賜給希幔十四個兒子，三個女兒，都歸他們父親指教，在耶和華的殿唱歌、敲鈸、彈琴、鼓瑟，辦神殿的事務。亞薩、耶杜頓、希幔都是王所命定的。
