“ The rest of the people— priests, Levites, gatekeepers, musicians, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples for the sake of the Law of God, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand—

The rest of the people gathered together. They included the priests, the Levites and the men who guarded the gates. They included the musicians and temple servants. They also included all the people who separated themselves from the surrounding nations to obey the Law of God. All these men brought their wives with them. And they brought all their sons and daughters who were old enough to understand what was being agreed to.

“ The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who have separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who have knowledge and understanding,

Then the rest of the people— the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, Temple servants, and all who had separated themselves from the pagan people of the land in order to obey the Law of God, together with their wives, sons, daughters, and all who were old enough to understand—

The rest of the people— the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, and temple servants, along with their wives, sons, and daughters, everyone who is able to understand and who has separated themselves from the surrounding peoples to obey the law of God—

Now the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, all those who had knowledge and understanding,

Now the rest of the people— the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the Nethinim, and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, everyone who had knowledge and understanding—

以色列人與其他外族人隔離，站著承認自己的罪惡和祖先的過犯。

不要和非信徒同負一軛，因為公義和不法怎能合作呢？光明和黑暗怎能共存呢？基督與魔鬼怎能相容呢？信徒與非信徒有什麼相干呢？上帝的殿與偶像怎能相提並論呢？因為我們就是永活上帝的殿，正如上帝說：「我要住在他們中間，在他們當中往來；我要作他們的上帝，他們要作我的子民。」又說：「所以，你們要從他們中間出來，離開他們，不要沾染污穢之物，我就接納你們。

以色列人聽到律法書上的話，便逐出所有外族人。

如果你本著誠實、正直、公義，憑永活的耶和華起誓，你必成為萬國的祝福，得到他們的尊敬。」

七月一日，以斯拉祭司把律法書帶到能聽懂的男女會眾面前，

在上帝面前不要冒失開口，不可急於發言，因為祂在天上，你在地上。所以，你要少言寡語。

這些事以後，眾首領來告訴我說：「以色列民眾、祭司和利未人還沒有與當地各族分開，他們仍隨從迦南人、赫人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、亞捫人、摩押人、埃及人和亞摩利人的可憎行為。他們為自己和自己的兒子娶這些人的女兒為妻，使聖潔的民族與當地的人混雜。首領和官員是這種不忠之事的罪魁。」

我曾說你們必佔據他們的土地，我要把那片奶蜜之鄉賜給你們作產業。我是你們的上帝耶和華，我已經把你們跟萬族分開。

民眾捐出一百七十公斤金子、一千一百公斤銀子和六十七件祭司禮服。於是，祭司、利未人、殿門守衛、歌樂手、一些民眾、殿役和全體以色列人都住在自己的城裡。到了七月，以色列人都住在各自的城裡。

現在，你們要向你們祖先的上帝耶和華認罪，遵行祂的旨意，與這地方的人和你們的外族妻子斷絕關係。」會眾都高聲回答說：「你說的對，我們必照你的話做。可是，人這麼多，又逢大雨季節，我們不能總站在外面，並且這事一兩天也解決不了，因為我們在這事上犯了大罪。不如讓我們的首領為全體會眾處理這事，讓那些娶了外族女子為妻的人在指定的時間與本城的長老和審判官一起來找首領解決，直到我們的上帝因這事而發的烈怒離開我們。」只有撒黑的兒子約拿單和特瓦的兒子雅哈謝反對這事，支持他們的還有米書蘭和利未人沙比太。流亡歸來的人都遵照建議而行。以斯拉祭司按家族選出各族長，都是點名指定的。他們從十月一日開始著手查辦這事，到次年一月一日才查清娶外族女子為妻的人。祭司中娶外族女子為妻的有耶書亞的子孫約薩達的兒子及其弟兄瑪西雅、以利以謝、雅立和基大利。他們答應休掉自己的妻子，並從羊群中獻上一隻公綿羊為自己贖罪。

祭司、利未人、一些百姓、歌樂手、殿門守衛和殿役住在自己的城裡，其餘的以色列人也都住在自己的城裡。

因為上帝是普天下的君王，要向祂唱讚美的樂章。

祭司有耶大雅的子孫，即耶書亞的子孫九百七十三人；音麥的子孫一千零五十二人；巴施戶珥的子孫一千二百四十七人；哈琳的子孫一千零一十七人。利未人有何達威雅的子孫，即耶書亞和甲篾的子孫七十四人；負責歌樂的亞薩的子孫一百二十八人；負責守衛殿門的沙龍的子孫、亞特的子孫、達們的子孫、亞谷的子孫、哈底大的子孫和朔拜的子孫一百三十九人。殿役有西哈的子孫、哈蘇巴的子孫、答巴俄的子孫、基綠的子孫、西亞的子孫、巴頓的子孫、利巴拿的子孫、哈迦巴的子孫、亞谷的子孫、哈甲的子孫、薩買的子孫、哈難的子孫、吉德的子孫、迦哈的子孫、利亞雅的子孫、利汛的子孫、尼哥大的子孫、迦散的子孫、烏撒的子孫、巴西亞的子孫、比賽的子孫、押拿的子孫、米烏寧的子孫、尼普心的子孫、巴卜的子孫、哈古巴的子孫、哈忽的子孫、巴洗律的子孫、米希大的子孫、哈沙的子孫、巴柯的子孫、西西拉的子孫、答瑪的子孫、尼細亞的子孫和哈提法的子孫。
