“ The rest of the people— priests, Levites, gatekeepers, musicians, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples for the sake of the Law of God, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand—

The rest of the people gathered together. They included the priests, the Levites and the men who guarded the gates. They included the musicians and temple servants. They also included all the people who separated themselves from the surrounding nations to obey the Law of God. All these men brought their wives with them. And they brought all their sons and daughters who were old enough to understand what was being agreed to.

“ The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who have separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who have knowledge and understanding,

Then the rest of the people— the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, Temple servants, and all who had separated themselves from the pagan people of the land in order to obey the Law of God, together with their wives, sons, daughters, and all who were old enough to understand—

以色列人与其他外族人隔离，站着承认自己的罪恶和祖先的过犯。

不要和非信徒同负一轭，因为公义和不法怎能合作呢？光明和黑暗怎能共存呢？基督与魔鬼怎能相容呢？信徒与非信徒有什么相干呢？上帝的殿与偶像怎能相提并论呢？因为我们就是永活上帝的殿，正如上帝说：“我要住在他们中间，在他们当中往来；我要做他们的上帝，他们要做我的子民。”又说：“所以，你们要从他们中间出来，离开他们，不要沾染污秽之物，我就接纳你们。

以色列人听到律法书上的话，便逐出所有外族人。

如果你本着诚实、正直、公义，凭永活的耶和华起誓，你必成为万国的祝福，得到他们的尊敬。”

七月一日，以斯拉祭司把律法书带到能听懂的男女会众面前，

在上帝面前不要冒失开口，不可急于发言，因为祂在天上，你在地上。所以，你要少言寡语。

这些事以后，众首领来告诉我说：“以色列民众、祭司和利未人还没有与当地各族分开，他们仍随从迦南人、赫人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、亚扪人、摩押人、埃及人和亚摩利人的可憎行为。他们为自己和自己的儿子娶这些人的女儿为妻，使圣洁的民族与当地的人混杂。首领和官员是这种不忠之事的罪魁。”

我曾说你们必占据他们的土地，我要把那片奶蜜之乡赐给你们作产业。我是你们的上帝耶和华，我已经把你们跟万族分开。

民众捐出一百七十公斤金子、一千一百公斤银子和六十七件祭司礼服。于是，祭司、利未人、殿门守卫、歌乐手、一些民众、殿役和全体以色列人都住在自己的城里。到了七月，以色列人都住在各自的城里。

现在，你们要向你们祖先的上帝耶和华认罪，遵行祂的旨意，与这地方的人和你们的外族妻子断绝关系。”会众都高声回答说：“你说的对，我们必照你的话做。可是，人这么多，又逢大雨季节，我们不能总站在外面，并且这事一两天也解决不了，因为我们在这事上犯了大罪。不如让我们的首领为全体会众处理这事，让那些娶了外族女子为妻的人在指定的时间与本城的长老和审判官一起来找首领解决，直到我们的上帝因这事而发的烈怒离开我们。”只有撒黑的儿子约拿单和特瓦的儿子雅哈谢反对这事，支持他们的还有米书兰和利未人沙比太。流亡归来的人都遵照建议而行。以斯拉祭司按家族选出各族长，都是点名指定的。他们从十月一日开始着手查办这事，到次年一月一日才查清娶外族女子为妻的人。祭司中娶外族女子为妻的有耶书亚的子孙约萨达的儿子及其弟兄玛西雅、以利以谢、雅立和基大利。他们答应休掉自己的妻子，并从羊群中献上一只公绵羊为自己赎罪。

祭司、利未人、一些百姓、歌乐手、殿门守卫和殿役住在自己的城里，其余的以色列人也都住在自己的城里。

因为上帝是普天下的君王，要向祂唱赞美的乐章。

祭司有耶大雅的子孙，即耶书亚的子孙九百七十三人；音麦的子孙一千零五十二人；巴施户珥的子孙一千二百四十七人；哈琳的子孙一千零一十七人。利未人有何达威雅的子孙，即耶书亚和甲篾的子孙七十四人；负责歌乐的亚萨的子孙一百二十八人；负责守卫殿门的沙龙的子孙、亚特的子孙、达们的子孙、亚谷的子孙、哈底大的子孙和朔拜的子孙一百三十九人。殿役有西哈的子孙、哈苏巴的子孙、答巴俄的子孙、基绿的子孙、西亚的子孙、巴顿的子孙、利巴拿的子孙、哈迦巴的子孙、亚谷的子孙、哈甲的子孙、萨买的子孙、哈难的子孙、吉德的子孙、迦哈的子孙、利亚雅的子孙、利汛的子孙、尼哥大的子孙、迦散的子孙、乌撒的子孙、巴西亚的子孙、比赛的子孙、押拿的子孙、米乌宁的子孙、尼普心的子孙、巴卜的子孙、哈古巴的子孙、哈忽的子孙、巴洗律的子孙、米希大的子孙、哈沙的子孙、巴柯的子孙、西西拉的子孙、答玛的子孙、尼细亚的子孙和哈提法的子孙。
