僕今為主之諸僕以色列人、晝夜所祈禱於主前、又認以色列人及我並我父家於主前所犯之罪、求主以目垂顧、側耳垂聽僕之祈禱、

Please pay careful attention to my prayer. See how your people are suffering. Please listen to me. I’m praying to you day and night. I’m praying for the people of Israel. We Israelites have committed sins against you. All of us admit it. I and my family have also sinned against you.

let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Even I and my father’s house have sinned.

listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned!

While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill—

I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:“ Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,

“ Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;

And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?

Our parents were unfaithful; they did evil in the eyes of the Lord our God and forsook him. They turned their faces away from the Lord’s dwelling place and turned their backs on him.

We have sinned, even as our ancestors did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.

“ Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary.Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.

“ Woe to me!” I cried.“ I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

While Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites— men, women and children— gathered around him. They too wept bitterly.

Our ancestors sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment.

All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

Lord, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you.

Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.

Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.

Why should the living complain when punished for their sins?Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven, and say:“ We have sinned and rebelled and you have not forgiven.

“ I regret that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.” Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the Lord all that night.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said,“ I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.No one calls on your name or strives to lay hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have given us over to our sins.

and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.

And now you intend to make the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem your slaves. But aren’t you also guilty of sins against the Lord your God?

Yet give attention to your servant’s prayer and his plea for mercy, Lord my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.May your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, this place of which you said,‘ My Name shall be there,’ so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place.

and prayed:“ I am too ashamed and disgraced, my God, to lift up my face to you, because our sins are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens.From the days of our ancestors until now, our guilt has been great. Because of our sins, we and our kings and our priests have been subjected to the sword and captivity, to pillage and humiliation at the hand of foreign kings, as it is today.

The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help.

Now honor the Lord, the God of your ancestors, and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples around you and from your foreign wives.”
