He restored the chief cupbearer to his former position so that he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand,

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the LORD’S message spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD stirred the mind of King Cyrus of Persia. He disseminated a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom, announcing in a written edict the following:

O LORD, hear my prayer! Pay attention to my plea for mercy!

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD like channels of water; he turns it wherever he wants.

This Ezra is the one who came up from Babylon. He was a scribe who was skilled in the law of Moses which the LORD God of Israel had given. The king supplied him with everything he requested, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him.

So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph:“ In my dream, there was a vine in front of me.On the vine there were three branches. As it budded, its blossoms opened and its clusters ripened into grapes.Now Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, so I took the grapes, squeezed them into his cup, and put the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”“ This is its meaning,” Joseph said to him.“ The three branches represent three days.In three more days Pharaoh will reinstate you and restore you to your office. You will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you did before when you were cupbearer.

O Lord, listen to me! Pay attention to my plea for mercy!

Pharaoh was enraged with his two officials, the cupbearer and the baker,

May the sovereign God grant you mercy before the man so that he may release your other brother and Benjamin! As for me, if I lose my children I lose them.”
