Where now is the lions’ den, the place where they fed their young, where the lion and lioness went, and the cubs, with nothing to fear?

Assyria is like a lion. Where is the lions’ den now? Where did they feed their cubs? Where did all the lions go? In their den they had nothing to fear.

Where is the lions’ den, the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and lioness went, where his cubs were, with none to disturb?

Where now is that great Nineveh, that den filled with young lions? It was a place where people— like lions and their cubs— walked freely and without fear.

Where is the lions’ lair, or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and lioness prowled, and the lion’s cub, with nothing to frighten them away?

Where is the den of the lions And the feeding place of the young lions, Where the lion, lioness, and lion’s cub went With nothing to disturb them?

他們的吼叫像母獅；他們吼叫像少壯獅子；他們咆哮，攫取可抓撕的，逕自叼去，無人援救。

少壯獅子向他吼叫，發出大聲，使他的地荒涼，他的城市倒壞，無人居住。

獅子的吼叫和猛獅的聲音盡都止息；少壯獅子的牙齒都敲掉。獅子因無抓撕而死；母獅之子便都離散。

『以色列是被打散的羊，有獅子把他趕逐了：首先是亞述王將他吞滅，末後是他的骨頭被巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒啃斷了。

說：你母親在獅子中間是甚麼樣的母獅啊！她蹲伏在少壯獅子當中，養育她的小獅子。她把她的一隻小獅子養大起來；成了少壯獅子，學會了抓撕成抓到之物而喫人。列國揚聲吶喊要逮捕他，在他們坑中給捉住了；他們用鈎子拉他到埃及地。母獅見她只是白等候，指望也滅沒了，便將她的另一隻小獅子立為少壯獅子。這獅在眾獅子中走來走去；成了少壯獅子，學會了抓撕所抓到之物而喫人。他蹂躪了列國的宮堡，使他們的城市荒廢；因他吼叫的聲音、遍地和其中所有的盡都驚駭。於是四圍列國設網羅來攻擊他；將網撒在他身上，在他們坑中給捉住了。

『看吧，仇敵像獅子從約但河邊的叢林上來，攻擊歷久不壞的田莊；一眨眼之間我就要使他們都跑走、離開這地了；誰蒙揀選，我就派誰治理這地。因為誰能比得上我呢？誰能定期傳我對訊呢？有哪一個牧民者能在我面前站立得住呢？

有禍啊！這流人血的城！盡是謊詐，充滿着劫掠；搶奪的事總離不了。

猶大是個小獅子；「我兒啊，你抓了所抓到的便上山穴去；』他屈身伏着像公獅、像母獅，誰敢惹他呢？

因為永恆主對我這樣說：獅子和少壯獅子怎樣咆哮而護着所抓撕的，就使你喊叫滿山的牧人來攻擊牠，牠也不因他們的聲音而驚慌，不因他們的喊喝而屈伏；照樣，萬軍之永恆主也必怎樣下來，覆庇在錫安的山和岡陵上。

有獅子從其叢藪中上來了，有毁壞列國的已經起身；他從他的地方出發，要使你的地荒涼，使你的城市倒壞，無人居住。

她中間的首領是吼叫的獅子；她的審判官是晚上的豺狼，一點啃骨肉也不留到早晨。
