“看哪，耶和华大而可畏之日未到以前，我要差遣以利亚先知到你们那里去。

就对臣仆说：“这是施洗的约翰从死人中复活，因此才有这些异能在他里面运行。”

希律分封王听见耶稣所做的一切事，就困惑起来，因为有人说：“约翰从死人中复活了。”又有人说：“以利亚显现了。”还有人说：“古时的一个先知又活了。”希律说：“约翰我已经斩了，但这是什么人？关于他，我竟听到这样的事！”于是希律想要见他。

他们说：“有人说是施洗的约翰；有人说是以利亚；又有人说是耶利米或是先知中的一位。”

耶稣的名声传开了，希律王也听见。有人说：“施洗的约翰从死人中复活了，因此才有这些异能在他里面运行。”但别人说：“他是以利亚。”又有人说：“是先知，正如先知中的一位。”希律听见却说：“是我所斩的约翰，他复活了。”
