Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet.

But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, responded by telling the crowd,“ There are six days when work should be done; therefore come on those days and be healed and not on the Sabbath day.”

Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, along with his whole household. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized.

After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying,“ Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, you can speak.”

And they all seized Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal, but none of these things mattered to Gallio.

They came to the leader’s house, and he saw a commotion— people weeping and wailing loudly.

While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said,“ Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher anymore?”When Jesus overheard what was said, he told the synagogue leader,“ Don’t be afraid. Only believe.”

The woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth.

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown them to me.

As he was telling them these things, suddenly one of the leaders came and knelt down before him, saying,“ My daughter just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”So Jesus and his disciples got up and followed him.Just then, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years approached from behind and touched the end of his robe,for she said to herself,“ If I can just touch his robe, I’ll be made well.”Jesus turned and saw her.“ Have courage, daughter,” he said.“ Your faith has saved you.” And the woman was made well from that moment.When Jesus came to the leader’s house, he saw the flute players and a crowd lamenting loudly.“ Leave,” he said,“ because the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they laughed at him.After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.Then news of this spread throughout that whole area.

When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell at his feet, and worshiped him.But Peter lifted him up and said,“ Stand up. I myself am also a man.”

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said,“ Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!”

When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said in a loud voice,“ What do you have to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torment me!”

Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Just then, a man named Jairus came. He was a leader of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus’s feet and pleaded with him to come to his house,because he had an only daughter about twelve years old, and she was dying. While he was going, the crowds were nearly crushing him.A woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years, who had spent all she had on doctors and yet could not be healed by any,approached from behind and touched the end of his robe. Instantly her bleeding stopped.“ Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said,“ Master, the crowds are hemming you in and pressing against you.”“ Someone did touch me,” said Jesus.“ I know that power has gone out from me.”When the woman saw that she was discovered, she came trembling and fell down before him. In the presence of all the people, she declared the reason she had touched him and how she was instantly healed.“ Daughter,” he said to her,“ your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”While he was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue leader’s house and said,“ Your daughter is dead. Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”When Jesus heard it, he answered him,“ Don’t be afraid. Only believe, and she will be saved.”After he came to the house, he let no one enter with him except Peter, John, James, and the child’s father and mother.Everyone was crying and mourning for her. But he said,“ Stop crying, because she is not dead but asleep.”They laughed at him, because they knew she was dead.So he took her by the hand and called out,“ Child, get up!”Her spirit returned, and she got up at once. Then he gave orders that she be given something to eat.Her parents were astounded, but he instructed them to tell no one what had happened.
