又对他们说：“在安息日哪一样是可以作的呢：作好事还是坏事？救命还是害命？”他们一声不响。

耶稣问他们：“在安息日可以行善还是作恶，救命还是害命？”他们却不做声。

又問眾人說：「在安息日行善行惡，救命害命，哪樣是可以的呢？」他們都不作聲。

復問眾曰：『禮日當行善乎？抑作惡乎？救生乎？抑戕生乎？』眾皆嘿然不答。

Then Jesus asked them,“ Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

Then Jesus asked them,“ What does the Law say we should do on the Sabbath day? Should we do good? Or should we do evil? Should we save life? Or should we kill?” But no one answered.

And he said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then he turned to his critics and asked,“ Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him.

Then he said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

And He* said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do harm, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Then He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Then he said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?” But they were silent.

He said to them,“ Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then Jesus said to them,“ I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?”

And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”— that they might accuse Him.Then He said to them,“ What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had dropsy.And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go.Then He answered them, saying,“ Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?”

And He said to them,“ The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd,“ There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.”The Lord then answered him and said,“ Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound— think of it— for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.

But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.

For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
