And when the people saw it, they all complained,“ He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

They say,‘ Keep to yourself! Don’t get near me, for I am holier than you!’ These people are like smoke in my nostrils, like a fire that keeps burning all day long.

But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”So Jesus told them this parable:“ Which one of you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety- nine in the open pasture and go look for the one that is lost until he finds it?Then when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing.Returning home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, telling them,‘ Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.’I tell you, in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety- nine righteous people who have no need to repent.

When the Pharisees saw this they said to his disciples,“ Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

The one who is spiritual discerns all things, yet he himself is understood by no one.

Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.

“ Why does this man speak this way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to listen to the church, treat him like a Gentile or a tax collector.
