But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.

But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him,“ I demand in the name of the living God— tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”Jesus replied,“ You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Pilate asked Jesus,“ Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus replied,“ You have said it.”

Simon Peter answered,“ You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

The Jewish leaders replied,“ By our law he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God.”

why do you call it blasphemy when I say,‘ I am the Son of God’? After all, the Father set me apart and sent me into the world.

I said to myself,“ I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue when the ungodly are around me.”But as I stood there in silence— not even speaking of good things— the turmoil within me grew worse.

“ Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”Jesus told them,“ Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

For, At just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent.“ Don’t you hear all these charges they are bringing against you?” Pilate demanded.But Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor’s surprise.

that comes from the glorious Good News entrusted to me by our blessed God.

and they said,“ Tell us, are you the Messiah?” But he replied,“ If I tell you, you won’t believe me.And if I ask you a question, you won’t answer.But from now on the Son of Man will be seated in the place of power at God’s right hand.”They all shouted,“ So, are you claiming to be the Son of God?” And he replied,“ You say that I am.”“ Why do we need other witnesses?” they said.“ We ourselves heard him say it.”

Pilate said,“ So you are a king?” Jesus responded,“ You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.

And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

The people surrounded him and asked,“ How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”

The king proclaims the Lord’s decree:“ The Lord said to me,‘ You are my son. Today I have become your Father.

I am silent before you; I won’t say a word, for my punishment is from you.

I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.”

The passage of Scripture he had been reading was this:“ He was led like a sheep to the slaughter. And as a lamb is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.

They began screaming at him,“ Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?”

The Father and I are one.”Once again the people picked up stones to kill him.

So the Jewish leaders tried all the harder to find a way to kill him. For he not only broke the Sabbath, he called God his Father, thereby making himself equal with God.So Jesus explained,“ I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. In fact, the Father will show him how to do even greater works than healing this man. Then you will truly be astonished.For just as the Father gives life to those he raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants.In addition, the Father judges no one. Instead, he has given the Son absolute authority to judge,so that everyone will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son is certainly not honoring the Father who sent him.“ I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.“ And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice— the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

and Pilate asked him,“ Aren’t you going to answer them? What about all these charges they are bringing against you?”But Jesus said nothing, much to Pilate’s surprise.

He took Jesus back into the headquarters again and asked him,“ Where are you from?” But Jesus gave no answer.

But Jesus was silent and made no reply. Then the high priest asked him,“ Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”Jesus said,“ I Am. And you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.”Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said,“ Why do we need other witnesses?

Then Nathanael exclaimed,“ Rabbi, you are the Son of God— the King of Israel!”Jesus asked him,“ Do you believe this just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.”Then he said,“ I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.”
