若不是主減少那些日子，凡血肉之軀的，就沒有一個能得救；但是為了他所揀選的選民，他將那些日子減少了。

若主不稍減其日、則無一人得救、惟天主為其所救之選民、已稍減其日、

主若不減其時日、則血氣之倫、將無遺孑！惟為選民之故、主必減之耳。

“ If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.

耶和華如此說：「人在葡萄中尋得新酒時會說：『不要毀壞它，因為它還有用處』；同樣，我必因我僕人的緣故，不將他們全然毀滅。我必從雅各中領出後裔，從猶大中領出那要繼承我眾山的；我的選民要繼承它，我的僕人要在那裏居住。

若不減少那些日子，凡血肉之軀的，就沒有一個能得救；可是為了選民，那些日子將減少。

就福音來說，他們為你們的緣故是仇敵；就揀選來說，他們因列祖的緣故是蒙愛的。因為上帝的恩賜和選召是不會撤回的。你們從前不順服上帝，如今因他們的不順服，你們倒蒙了憐憫。同樣，他們現在也是不順服，叫他們因着施給你們的憐憫，現在也就蒙憐憫。因為上帝把眾人都圈在不順服中，為的是要憐憫眾人。

這全地的人，三分之二將被剪除而死，三分之一仍必存留。這是耶和華說的。我要使這三分之一經過火，熬煉他們，如熬煉銀子；試煉他們，如試煉金子。他們要求告我的名，我必應允他們。我說：「這是我的子民。」他們要說：「耶和華是我的上帝。」

國內剩下的人若還有十分之一，也必被吞滅。然而如同大樹與橡樹，雖被砍伐，殘幹卻仍存留，聖潔的苗裔是它的殘幹。」

而且，他們若不是長久不信，仍要被接上，因為上帝能夠重新把他們接上去。你是從那天生的野橄欖上砍下來的，尚且違反自然地接在好橄欖上，何況這些原來的枝子豈不更要接在原樹上嗎？

現在這時刻也是這樣，照着出於恩典的揀選，還有所留的餘數。既是靠恩典，就不憑行為，不然，恩典就不再是恩典了。那又怎麼說呢？以色列人所尋求的，他們沒有得着。但是蒙揀選的人得着了，其餘的人卻成了頑梗不化的。

若不是萬軍之耶和華為我們留下一些倖存者，我們早已變成所多瑪，像蛾摩拉一樣了。
