可是我们能说‘是来自人间’吗？”原来他们怕民众，因为大家都认为约翰的确是先知。

若说‘从人间来’，却又怕百姓，因为众人真以约翰为先知。”

但若说‘从人间来的’，却又怕众人，因为大家认为约翰确是先知。”

但若说‘从人间来的’，却又怕众人，因为大家认为约翰确是先知。”

如果我们说‘是从人来的’，又怕触怒百姓，因为他们都相信约翰真的是先知。”

如果我们说‘是从人来的’……”他们害怕群众，因为众人都认为约翰的确是先知。

若說『從人間來』，卻又怕百姓，因為眾人真以約翰為先知。」

但若說『從人間來的』，卻又怕眾人，因為大家認為約翰確是先知。」

但若說『從人間來的』，卻又怕眾人，因為大家認為約翰確是先知。」

如果我們說『是從人來的』，又怕觸怒百姓，因為他們都相信約翰真的是先知。」

如果我們說‘是從人來的’……”他們害怕群眾，因為眾人都認為約翰的確是先知。

但是、若說由於人呢——』他們怕羣眾；因為眾人都看約翰真是神言人。

可是我們能說『是來自人間』嗎？」原來他們怕民眾，因為大家都認為約翰的確是先知。

若云自人、則又畏民、蓋皆以約翰為先知也、

若云由人、我又畏民、蓋民誠以約翰為先知也、

若云自人、則又畏民、蓋眾以約翰誠為先知、

若謂自人、眾又可畏、蓋眾皆確認如望為先知也。』

But if we say,‘ Of human origin’…”( They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)

But what if we say,‘ From human authority’?” They were afraid of the people. Everyone believed that John really was a prophet.

But shall we say,‘ From man’?”— they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet.

But do we dare say it was merely human?” For they were afraid of what the people would do, because everyone believed that John was a prophet.

But if we say,‘ Of human origin’”— they were afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought that John was truly a prophet.

But should we say,‘ From men’?”— they were afraid of the people, for they all considered John to have been a real prophet.

But if we say,‘ From men’”— they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed.

But should we say, From men— they feared the people: for all verily held John to be a prophet.

But if we say,‘ From men’”— they were afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought that John was a genuine prophet.

But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all[ men] counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.

But if we say,‘ From people–’”( they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

If we should say,‘ From men’”— they feared the people, for all held John to really be a prophet.

祭司长们、律法师们和长老们知道这比喻是针对他们而说的，就想拘捕耶稣。可是他们怕民众，于是离开耶稣走了。

希律想要杀约翰，可是怕民众，因为他们认为约翰是先知。

就想拘捕他，可是怕民众，因为他们都认为耶稣是先知。

你们出去，究竟是要看什么呢？一位先知吗？是的，我告诉你们：他比先知还大。他就是经上记载的那个人：‘看哪，我要差派我的使者在你前头，他要在你之前预备你的道。’“我告诉你们：在女人所生的人中，没有一个比约翰更大的；然而在神的国里，再小的也比约翰更大。”所有已经受过约翰洗礼的民众和税吏，听了这话，都承认神是义的；

那时，耶路撒冷、全犹太地区和整个约旦河一带的人，都出来到他那里，承认自己的罪孽，在约旦河里受他的洗礼。

你们出去，究竟是要看什么呢？一位先知吗？是的，我告诉你们：他比先知还大。

这是因为希律敬畏约翰，知道他是义人，是圣人，所以保护着他。希律听约翰讲说的时候，虽然心里十分困惑，还是乐意听他的。

但如果说‘是来自人间’，那么民众都会用石头砸我们，因为他们深信约翰是先知。”于是他们回答：“不知道是从哪里来的。”耶稣就对他们说：“我也不告诉你们我凭什么权柄做这些事。”

有许多人来到他那里，说：“虽然约翰没有行过神迹，但约翰所说的有关这个人的事，都是真的。”

“这两个儿子中，哪一个遵行父亲的意愿呢？”他们回答说：“大儿子。”耶稣说：“我确实地告诉你们：税吏和妓女要在你们的前面进神的国，因为约翰来到你们这里指明义的道路，你们不相信他，而那些税吏和妓女们却相信了他。你们虽然看见了，后来还是没有悔改去相信他。

祭司长们和经文士们在图谋怎样能杀掉耶稣，因为他们怕民众。

经文士和祭司长们知道这个比喻是针对他们而说的，当时就想下手捉拿耶稣，可是又怕民众。

于是守卫长与差役们一起去把使徒们带来，并没有用暴力，因为怕民众用石头砸他们。
