They discussed it among themselves and said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

They talked to each other about it. They said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.

They discussed it among themselves:“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’

And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

They began to argue among themselves:“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

They discussed with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’

第二天，約翰看見耶穌來到他那裏，就說：「看哪，神的羔羊，除去世人的罪的！

約翰為他作見證，喊着說：「這就是我曾說：『那在我以後來的先於我，因為在我以前，他已經存在。』」

他見耶穌走過，就說：「看哪，神的羔羊！」

娶新娘的是新郎；新郎的朋友站在一旁聽，一聽見新郎的聲音就歡喜快樂。因此，我這喜樂得以滿足了。他必興旺；我必衰微。」「從上頭來的是在萬有之上；出於地的是屬於地，他所說的也是屬於地。從天上來的是在萬有之上。他把所見所聞的見證出來，只是沒有人領受他的見證。那領受他見證的，就印證神是真實的。神所差來的說神的話，因為神所賜給他的聖靈是沒有限量的。父愛子，已把萬有交在他手裏。信子的人有永生；不信子的人得不到永生，而且神的憤怒常在他身上。」

他們一走，耶穌就對眾人談到約翰，說：「你們從前到曠野去，是要看甚麼呢？看風吹動的蘆葦嗎？你們出去到底是要看甚麼？看穿細軟衣服的人嗎？那穿細軟衣服的人是在王宮裏。你們出去究竟是要看甚麼？是先知嗎？是的，我告訴你們，他比先知大多了。這個人就是經上所說的：『看哪，我要差遣我的使者在你面前，他要在你前面為你預備道路。』我實在告訴你們，凡女子所生的，沒有一個比施洗約翰大；但在天國裏，最小的比他還大。從施洗約翰的日子到今天，天國受到強烈的攻擊，強者奪取它。眾先知和律法，直到約翰為止，都說了預言。如果你們願意接受，這人就是那要來的以利亞。

約翰的洗禮是從哪裏來的？是從天上來的，還是從人間來的呢？」他們彼此商議說：「我們若說『從天上來的』，他會對我們說：『這樣，你們為甚麼不信他呢？』若說『從人間來的』，我們又怕眾人，因為大家都認為約翰是先知。」於是他們回答耶穌：「我們不知道。」耶穌也對他們說：「我也不告訴你們，我仗着甚麼權柄做這些事。」

這兩個兒子是哪一個照着父親的意願做了呢？」他們說：「大兒子。」耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們，稅吏和娼妓倒比你們先進神的國。因為約翰到你們這裏來指引你們走義路，你們卻不信他，稅吏和娼妓倒信了他。你們看見了以後，還是不悔悟去信他。」

我看見了，所以作證：這一位是神的兒子。」
