耶穌進了殿，正教訓人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老來問他說：「你仗着甚麼權柄做這些事？給你這權柄的是誰呢？」耶穌回答說：「我也要問你們一句話，你們若告訴我，我就告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄做這些事。約翰的洗禮是從哪裏來的？是從天上來的？是從人間來的呢？」他們彼此商議說：「我們若說『從天上來』，他必對我們說：『這樣，你們為甚麼不信他呢？』若說『從人間來』，我們又怕百姓，因為他們都以約翰為先知。」於是回答耶穌說：「我們不知道。」耶穌說：「我也不告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄做這些事。」

有一天，耶穌在殿裏教訓百姓，講福音的時候，祭司長和文士並長老上前來，問他說：「你告訴我們，你仗着甚麼權柄做這些事？給你這權柄的是誰呢？」耶穌回答說：「我也要問你們一句話，你們且告訴我。約翰的洗禮是從天上來的？是從人間來的呢？」他們彼此商議說：「我們若說『從天上來』，他必說：『你們為甚麼不信他呢？』若說『從人間來』，百姓都要用石頭打死我們，因為他們信約翰是先知。」於是回答說：「不知道是從哪裏來的。」耶穌說：「我也不告訴你們，我仗着甚麼權柄做這些事。」

希律和本丟‧彼拉多，外邦人和以色列民，果然在這城裏聚集，要攻打你所膏的聖僕耶穌，成就你手和你意旨所預定必有的事。

第二天，官府、長老，和文士在耶路撒冷聚會，又有大祭司亞那和該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大，並大祭司的親族都在那裏，叫使徒站在當中，就問他們說：「你們用甚麼能力，奉誰的名做這事呢？」那時彼得被聖靈充滿，對他們說：

過兩天是逾越節，又是除酵節，祭司長和文士想法子怎麼用詭計捉拿耶穌，殺他。

耶穌回答說：「我從來是明明地對世人說話。我常在會堂和殿裏，就是猶太人聚集的地方教訓人；我在暗地裏並沒有說甚麼。

外邦為甚麼爭鬧？萬民為甚麼謀算虛妄的事？世上的君王一齊起來，臣宰一同商議，要敵擋耶和華並他的受膏者，說：我們要掙開他們的捆綁，脫去他們的繩索。那坐在天上的必發笑；主必嗤笑他們。那時，他要在怒中責備他們，在烈怒中驚嚇他們，

耶穌在殿裏所羅門的廊下行走。

萬軍之耶和華說：「我要差遣我的使者在我前面預備道路。你們所尋求的主必忽然進入他的殿；立約的使者，就是你們所仰慕的，快要來到。」
