他看見路邊有一棵無花果樹，就上前去，可是樹上除了葉子，什麼也找不到。於是他對那棵樹說：「你永遠不會再結果子了！」那棵無花果樹立刻就枯萎了。

現在斧子已經放在樹根上，所有不結好果子的樹都要被砍下來，被丟進火裡。

一個人如果不住在我裡面，就像枝條被丟在外面枯乾了，然後被收集扔進火裡焚燒。

清晨，他們路過那棵無花果樹的時候，看見它連根都枯萎了。彼得想起來就對耶穌說：「拉比，你看！你所詛咒的無花果樹枯萎了！」

「你們讓一棵樹好，它的果子就好；你們讓一棵樹壞，它的果子就壞；這樣，一棵樹是憑著果子被認出來。你們這些毒蛇的子孫！你們做為惡人，怎麼能說出善的來呢？因為心裡所充滿的，口裡就說出來。好人從他心裡所存的善，發出善來；壞人從他心裡所存的惡，發出惡來。

所有不結好果子的樹都要被砍下來，被丟進火裡。

現在我告訴你們，我要怎樣處理我的葡萄園：我必除掉它的籬笆，它就被吞盡；拆毀它的圍牆，它就被踐踏。我必使它荒廢，既不修剪，也不翻耕，任荊棘和蒺藜長起來；我還要吩咐烏雲不降雨水在其上。

「你們當聽另一個比喻：有一個人，是一家的主人，他栽種了一個葡萄園，四面圍上籬笆，裡面挖了一個榨酒池，蓋了一座守望樓，然後把葡萄園租給一些農夫，就出外旅行。

行不義的，讓他繼續行不義；骯髒的，讓他繼續骯髒；公義的，讓他繼續行公義；聖潔的，讓他繼續被分別為聖。」

那跌落在這石頭上的人，就將被破碎；這石頭落在誰的身上，就會把誰砸得稀爛。」

原來，他們如果藉著認識我們的主、救主耶穌基督而逃脫這世界的汙穢，卻又被這些汙穢糾纏、制伏了，那麼，他們最後的情況就比先前更壞了；
