依靠自己財富的必將倒下；而義人卻像綠葉那樣茂盛。

現在來吧，你們這些富有的人哪！應當為那些將要臨到你們的慘禍而痛哭、哀號！你們的財富腐爛了；你們的衣服被蟲蛀了；你們的金銀也生鏽了，這鏽將成為控告你們的見證，又要像火那樣吃你們的肉。在這末後的日子裡，你們竟然積蓄財富！

對那些今世富有的人，你當吩咐他們不可高傲自大，也不可把盼望寄託在靠不住的財富上，而要寄託在神身上，神把萬物豐豐富富地賜給我們享受。

「看哪，這個人不把神當作自己的保障，他依靠自己豐盛的財富，靠自己的奸惡得勝。」

因為你說『我是富有的；我發了財，什麼都不缺』，卻不知道你是可悲的、可憐的、貧窮的、瞎眼的、赤身的。

「孩子們哪，我與你們在一起的時候不多了。你們將尋找我，而且就像我曾經告訴過那些猶太人一樣，現在我也告訴你們：我去的地方，你們不能去。

你的目光飛向財富，它卻不見了；因為財富必定長出翅膀，如鷹飛向天空。

愛錢財的法利賽人聽到這一切話，就譏笑耶穌。

耶穌對他們說：「孩子們，你們沒有魚吧？」他們回答：「沒有。」

門徒們聽了這話，極其驚訝，就說：「究竟誰能得救呢？」

然後對他們講了一個比喻，說：「有一個富有的人，田地豐收了。他就心裡盤算：『我沒有地方儲存我的產物了，做什麼呢？』他就說：『我要這麼做：拆掉我的這些倉庫，另建更大的，把我所有的麥子和美物收集在那裡。然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你擁有了很多好東西，足以享用多年，你就休息、吃喝、慶祝吧。』「可是神對他說：『你這愚妄的人哪！今夜，他們就要召回你的靈魂了。那麼，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』「那為自己積蓄財富而在神面前不富足的人，也是這樣。」

孩子們哪，你們屬於神，而且你們已經勝過了假先知們，因為那在你們裡面的，比那在世界上的更大。

聽見的人就說：「那麼，誰能得救呢？」耶穌說：「在人不可能的事，在神都是可能的。」

你不要依靠欺壓，也不要妄想搶奪；即使財富增加，也不要放在心上。

富人的財物，是他堅固的城，在他幻想中，如高高的城牆。

孩子們哪，你們要保守自己遠離偶像。

耶和華啊，求你用手使我脫離世人——他們只在今生有份：你用你所儲藏的填滿他們的肚腹；他們也因有兒女而滿足，還把剩餘的留給他們的幼兒。

他們只是依靠財富、自誇多財的人。人實在不能救贖弟兄，也不能把他的贖價交給神，

我的孩子們哪，為了你們，我再次經受臨產的陣痛，直到基督在你們裡面成形！

他的門徒當中有許多人聽了，就說：「這話實在嚴厲，誰能聽呢？」
