So he ate and drank and lay down again.Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said,“ Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.”So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Sinai, the mountain of God.

Then Moses disappeared into the cloud as he climbed higher up the mountain. He remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.

“ Then, as before, I threw myself down before the Lord for forty days and nights. I ate no bread and drank no water because of the great sin you had committed by doing what the Lord hated, provoking him to anger.

“ That is why I threw myself down before the Lord for forty days and nights— for the Lord said he would destroy you.

“ At the end of the forty days and nights, the Lord handed me the two stone tablets inscribed with the words of the covenant.
