Jotham was twenty- five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok.He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, according to all that his father Uzziah had done. However he didn’t enter into Yahweh’s temple. The people still acted corruptly.He built the upper gate of Yahweh’s house, and he built much on the wall of Ophel.Moreover he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and in the forests he built fortresses and towers.He also fought with the king of the children of Ammon, and prevailed against them. The children of Ammon gave him the same year one hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat, and ten thousand cors of barley. The children of Ammon also gave that much to him in the second year, and in the third.So Jotham became mighty, because he ordered his ways before Yahweh his God.Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.

Therefore you will give a parting gift to Moresheth Gath. The houses of Achzib will be a deceitful thing to the kings of Israel.I will yet bring to you, inhabitant of Mareshah. He who is the glory of Israel will come to Adullam.

The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’”

The pride of Israel testifies to his face. Therefore Israel and Ephraim will stumble in their iniquity. Judah also will stumble with them.They will go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Yahweh; but they won’t find him. I will pour out my wrath on them like water.Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; Because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.Therefore I am to Ephraim like a moth, and to the house of Judah like rottenness.“ When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to king Jareb: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound.For I will be to Ephraim like a lion, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I myself will tear in pieces and go away. I will carry off, and there will be no one to deliver.

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!

Ephraim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.Yahweh also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his deeds he will repay him.

For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; and Judah has multiplied fortified cities; but I will send a fire on his cities, and it will devour its fortresses.”

In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing. There is prostitution in Ephraim. Israel is defiled.“ Also, Judah, there is a harvest appointed for you, when I restore the fortunes of my people.

“ Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don’t let Judah offend; and don’t come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth Aven, nor swear,‘ As Yahweh lives.’

Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Judah, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have rejected Yahweh’s law, and have not kept his statutes, and their lies have led them astray, after which their fathers walked;but I will send a fire on Judah, and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Israel, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals;They trample on the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and deny justice to the oppressed; and a man and his father use the same maiden, to profane my holy name;and they lay themselves down beside every altar on clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.

“ All this is for the disobedience of Jacob, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the disobedience of Jacob? Isn’t it Samaria? And what are the high places of Judah? Aren’t they Jerusalem?

Hear this word that Yahweh has spoken against you, children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying:“ I have only chosen you of all the families of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all of your sins.”
