經生輩腹誹曰：『斯人言何僭妄！』

At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves,“ This fellow is blaspheming!”

Then some teachers of the law said to themselves,“ This fellow is saying a very evil thing!”

And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves,“ This man is blaspheming.”

At this, some of the scribes said to themselves,“ He’s blaspheming!”

And some of the scribes said to themselves,“ This man is blaspheming!”

And at once some of the scribes said within themselves,“ This Man blasphemes!”

And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

At this, some of the scribes said among themselves,“ He’s blaspheming!”

And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This[ man] blasphemeth.

Then some of the experts in the law said to themselves,“ This man is blaspheming!”

Behold, some of the scribes said to themselves,“ This man blasphemes.”

Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said,“ Blasphemy! Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy.

But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves,“ Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”

Anyone who blasphemes the Name of the Lord must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel. Any native born Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the Name of the Lord must be put to death.

They replied,“ We’re stoning you not for any good work, but for blasphemy! You, a mere man, claim to be God.”Jesus replied,“ It is written in your own Scriptures that God said to certain leaders of the people,‘ I say, you are gods!’And you know that the Scriptures cannot be altered. So if those people who received God’s message were called‘ gods,’why do you call it blasphemy when I say,‘ I am the Son of God’? After all, the Father set me apart and sent me into the world.

You have all heard his blasphemy. What is your verdict?”“ Guilty!” they all cried.“ He deserves to die!”

But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves,“ What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”

For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,

for he taught with real authority— quite unlike their teachers of religious law.

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!”Then Jesus answered his thoughts.“ Simon,” he said to the Pharisee,“ I have something to say to you.”“ Go ahead, Teacher,” Simon replied.

So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying,“ We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.”This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council.The lying witnesses said,“ This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.
