要知道，我們領受了真理的知識以後，如果還故意犯罪，就不再有贖罪的祭物被保留下來；只保留了對審判的可怕等待，和那將要吞滅敵對者的嫉恨之火。任何拒絕摩西律法的人，憑兩個或三個見證人的見證，就得不到憐憫而死，何況一個人踐踏了神的兒子，把那使自己成聖的立約之血看做是俗物，又侮辱了恩典的聖靈，你們想想，這個人難道不該受更厲害的懲罰嗎？因為我們認識曾說過「報應在我，我將回報」的那一位，他又說過「主要審判自己的子民。」落在永生神的手中實在可怕。

原來，他們如果藉著認識我們的主、救主耶穌基督而逃脫這世界的汙穢，卻又被這些汙穢糾纏、制伏了，那麼，他們最後的情況就比先前更壞了；因為認識了義的道路以後，背離那交託給他們的神聖誡命，對他們來說，倒不如不認識還好。在他們身上正應驗了這真實的俗語：「狗轉身回到自己所吐的東西；豬洗乾淨了又到汙泥中打滾。」

無論誰聽了天國的話語而不領悟，那惡者就來，把那撒在他心裡的奪走；這就是那被撒上種子的『路邊之地』。那被撒上種子的『岩石地』是這樣的人：他聽了這話語，立刻懷著喜樂的心接受了它；只是他裡面沒有根而不能持久，一旦為這話語受患難或逼迫，他立刻就放棄了。那被撒進種子的『荊棘叢』是這樣的人：他聽了這話語，但今世的憂慮和財富的迷惑把話語擠住了，他就成了不結果實的。

每個人的工程將來要顯露，因為那日子要把它顯明；原來它要被火顯現出來，這火要考驗每個人的工程是怎樣的。

「有個汙靈從一個人身上出來以後，走遍無水之地，尋找安歇的地方，卻找不到，就說：『我要回到我離開的那屋裡去。』於是它回去，發現那裡空著，已被打掃乾淨，擺設整齊，就去帶了另外七個比自己更邪惡的靈，進去住在那裡。那個人最後的情況就比先前更壞了。這邪惡的世代也將是這樣。」
