因為我們知道了真理以後，若仍然故意犯罪，就再沒有贖罪祭了，只有可怕的審判和燒滅敵對者的烈火等候我們。人違犯摩西的律法，經兩三個人指證後，尚且被毫不留情地處死，更何況人踐踏上帝的兒子，輕看那使人聖潔的立約之血，又藐視賜人恩典的聖靈？這等人該受多麼重的刑罰啊！我們知道上帝說過：「伸冤在我，我必報應。」祂又說：「主要審判祂的百姓。」落在永活上帝的手中是可怕的！

如果他們藉著認識我們的主和救主耶穌基督，已經擺脫了世俗的污穢，但後來又被這些事纏住、俘虜了，他們的處境會比以前更糟糕。他們明知道正路，卻背棄了傳給他們的神聖誡命，這樣倒不如不知道的好。俗語說得好：「狗轉過身來，吃自己所吐的；豬洗乾淨了，又回到污泥裡去打滾。」這些話正好用在他們身上。

種子落在路旁，是指人聽了天國的道理卻不明白，魔鬼乘虛而入，把撒在他心裡的奪走了；種子落在石頭地上，是指人聽了道後，立刻歡歡喜喜地接受了，但因為他心裡沒有根基，不過是暫時接受，一旦為道遭受患難或迫害，就立刻放棄了信仰；種子落在荊棘叢中，是指人雖然聽過道，但生活的憂慮和錢財的迷惑把道擠住了，以致不能結出果實；

每個人的工程將來都會顯明出來，因為到了審判的日子，必用火試驗各人工程的品質。

因為他們欺騙我的子民說，『平安！』其實並沒有平安，就像有人築了一道薄牆，用白灰加以粉飾。所以，你要警告那些粉刷白灰的人，說，『牆必倒塌，暴雨要來臨，冰雹勢必降下，狂風也必大作。』牆倒塌之後，一定會有人問，『你們粉飾的白灰在哪裡呢？』主耶和華說，『我必在烈怒中用狂風暴雨和冰雹來摧毀這牆，我必把你們粉飾的牆夷為平地，使其露出根基。牆倒塌的時候，你們必葬身其中。這樣，你們就知道我是耶和華。我要向這牆和粉飾這牆的人發怒，懲罰他們。我告訴你們，這牆完了！粉飾這牆的人也完了！』他們就是那些向耶路撒冷說假預言，在沒有平安的時候宣稱看到了平安異象的以色列先知。這是主耶和華說的。」

「有一個污鬼離開了牠以前所附的人，在乾旱無水之地四處遊蕩，尋找安歇之處，卻沒有找到。於是牠說，『我要回到老地方。』牠回去後，看見裡面空著，打掃得又乾淨又整齊，就去帶來了七個比自己更邪惡的鬼一起住在那裡。那人的下場比從前更慘了。這個邪惡的世代也會這樣。」
