For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

People who are ungodly run after all those things. Your Father who is in heaven knows that you need them.

For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

So I say this, and insist in the Lord, that you no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

What father among you, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish?Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God.

But Jesus called them and said,“ You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.It must not be this way among you! Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,

For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors do the same, don’t they?And if you only greet your brothers, what more do you do? Even the Gentiles do the same, don’t they?
