我哭泣，以禁食刻苦我心，这却成了对我的辱骂；

约翰的门徒们和法利赛人正禁食的时候，有些人来问耶稣：“为什么约翰的门徒们和法利赛人的门徒们都禁食，而你的门徒们却不禁食呢？”

你们说：‘服事神是枉然的！遵守神所吩咐的，在万军之耶和华面前哀痛而行，有什么好处呢？

“你当去，把所有在苏萨中的犹太人都聚集起来，为我禁食，三天三夜不吃不喝；我和我的使女们也会如此禁食。然后我就去见王，虽然这样不符合法令；我如果因此灭亡，就灭亡吧！”

后来守寡了，现在已经八十四岁。她从不离开圣殿，禁食祈祷，日夜事奉神。

在鞭打、监禁、混乱中，在劳苦、失眠、饥饿中，

我的膝盖因禁食而衰弱，我的肉体消瘦，不再肥美。
