“ Now it was said,‘ Whoever sends his wife away is to give her a certificate of divorce’;

又言若人出妻、宜以離書與之、

又言、若人出妻、則以離書與之、

又有言云、若人出妻、當以離書予之、

古人有言：「出妻當予以休書。」

“ It has been said,‘ Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’

“ It has been said,‘ Suppose a man divorces his wife. If he does, he must give her a letter of divorce.’( Deuteronomy 24:1)

“ It was also said,‘ Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’

“ You have heard the law that says,‘ A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce.’

“ It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a written notice of divorce.

“ Furthermore it has been said,‘ Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’

It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

“ It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a written notice of divorce.

It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

“ It was said,‘ Whoever divorces his wife must give her a legal document.’

“ It was also said,‘ Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,’

“ When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens, if she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, that he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her away from his house,and she leaves his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife,and the latter husband turns against her, writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand, and sends her away from his house, or if the latter husband who took her to be his wife dies,then her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the Lord, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

They* said to Him,“ Why, then, did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?”

God says,“ If a husband divorces his wife And she leaves him And becomes another man’s wife, Will he return to her again? Would that land not be completely defiled? But you are a prostitute with many lovers; Yet you turn to Me,” declares the Lord.

Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

And some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began questioning Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife.And He answered and said to them,“ What did Moses command you?”They said,“ Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send his wife away.”But Jesus said to them,“ Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.But from the beginning of creation, God created them male and female.For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother,and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.Therefore, what God has joined together, no person is to separate.”
