Jesus answered,“ It is written:‘ Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Jesus answered,“ It is written,‘ Man must not live only on bread. He must also live on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”( Deuteronomy 8:3)

But he answered,“ It is written,“‘ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

But Jesus told him,“ No! The Scriptures say,‘ People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

He answered,“ It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

So he humbled you by making you hungry and then feeding you with unfamiliar manna. He did this to teach you that humankind cannot live by bread alone, but also by everything that comes from the LORD’s mouth.

Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written,‘ He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”Then Jesus told them,“ I tell you the solemn truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but my Father is giving you the true bread from heaven.For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”So they said to him,“ Sir, give us this bread all the time!”Jesus said to them,“ I am the bread of life. The one who comes to me will never go hungry, and the one who believes in me will never be thirsty.But I told you that you have seen me and still do not believe.Everyone whom the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will never send away.For I have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.Now this is the will of the one who sent me– that I should not lose one person of every one he has given me, but raise them all up at the last day.For this is the will of my Father– for everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him to have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus began complaining about him because he said,“ I am the bread that came down from heaven,”and they said,“ Isn’t this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say,‘ I have come down from heaven’?”Jesus replied,“ Do not complain about me to one another.No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.It is written in the prophets,‘ And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to me.( Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God– he has seen the Father.)I tell you the solemn truth, the one who believes has eternal life.I am the bread of life.Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.This is the bread that has come down from heaven, so that a person may eat from it and not die.I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats from this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus began to argue with one another,“ How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”Jesus said to them,“ I tell you the solemn truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves.The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me, and I in him.Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so the one who consumes me will live because of me.This is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the bread your ancestors ate, but then later died. The one who eats this bread will live forever.”Jesus said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

The Spirit is the one who gives life; human nature is of no help! The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.

And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

When the Israelites saw it, they said to one another,“ What is it?” because they did not know what it was. Moses said to them,“ It is the bread that the LORD has given you for food.

Now the Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was inhabited; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

Jesus answered him,“ It is written,‘ You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

Moses said,“ You will know this when the LORD gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy you, because the LORD has heard your murmurings that you are murmuring against him. As for us, what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.”

Then Jesus, when he looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, said to Philip,“ Where can we buy bread so that these people may eat?”( Now Jesus said this to test him, for he knew what he was going to do.)Philip replied,“ Two hundred silver coins worth of bread would not be enough for them, for each one to get a little.”One of Jesus’ disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,“ Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what good are these for so many people?”Jesus said,“ Have the people sit down.”( Now there was a lot of grass in that place.) So the men sat down, about five thousand in number.Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed the bread to those who were seated. He then did the same with the fish, as much as they wanted.When they were all satisfied, Jesus said to his disciples,“ Gather up the broken pieces that are left over, so that nothing is wasted.”So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves left over by the people who had eaten.Now when the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus performed, they began to say to one another,“ This is certainly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”Then Jesus, because he knew they were going to come and seize him by force to make him king, withdrew again up the mountainside alone.

Then Jesus said to him,“ Go away, Satan! For it is written:‘ You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

Jesus said to him,“ Once again it is written:‘ You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Elisha replied,“ Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the LORD says,‘ About this time tomorrow a seah of finely milled flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.’”An officer who was the king’s right-hand man responded to the prophet,“ Look, even if the LORD made it rain by opening holes in the sky, could this happen so soon?” Elisha said,“ Look, you will see it happen with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of the food!”

You are bound for judgment because you are robbing me– this whole nation is guilty.“ Bring the entire tithe into the storehouse so that there may be food in my temple. Test me in this matter,” says the LORD who rules over all,“ to see if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until there is no room for it all.Then I will stop the plague from ruining your crops, and the vine will not lose its fruit before harvest,” says the LORD who rules over all.

His disciples answered him,“ Where can someone get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”He asked them,“ How many loaves do you have?” They replied,“ Seven.”Then he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. After he took the seven loaves and gave thanks, he broke them and began giving them to the disciples to serve. So they served the crowd.They also had a few small fish. After giving thanks for these, he told them to serve these as well.Everyone ate and was satisfied, and they picked up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full.There were about four thousand who ate. Then he dismissed them.

Jesus answered him,“ It is said,‘ You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”

But he replied,“ They don’t need to go. You give them something to eat.”They said to him,“ We have here only five loaves and two fish.”“ Bring them here to me,” he replied.Then he instructed the crowds to sit down on the grass. He took the five loaves and two fish, and looking up to heaven he gave thanks and broke the loaves. He gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds.They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the broken pieces left over, twelve baskets full.Not counting women and children, there were about five thousand men who ate.

Now a man from Baal Shalisha brought some food for the prophet– twenty loaves of bread made from the firstfruits of the barley harvest, as well as fresh ears of grain. Elisha said,“ Set it before the people so they may eat.”But his attendant said,“ How can I feed a hundred men with this?” He replied,“ Set it before the people so they may eat, for this is what the LORD says,‘ They will eat and have some left over.’”So he set it before them; they ate and had some left over, just as the LORD predicted.

You are to observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; seven days you must eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for at that time you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before me empty-handed.

From that time when one came expecting a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty measures from it, there were only twenty.I struck all the products of your labor with blight, disease, and hail, and yet you brought nothing to me,’ says the LORD.‘ Think carefully about the past: from today, the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, to the day work on the temple of the LORD was resumed, think about it.The seed is still in the storehouse, isn’t it? And the vine, fig tree, pomegranate, and olive tree have not produced. Nevertheless, from today on I will bless you.’”

He said to them,“ How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” When they found out, they said,“ Five– and two fish.”Then he directed them all to sit down in groups on the green grass.So they reclined in groups of hundreds and fifties.He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. He gave them to his disciples to serve the people, and he divided the two fish among them all.They all ate and were satisfied,and they picked up the broken pieces and fish that were left over, twelve baskets full.Now there were five thousand men who ate the bread.

She said,“ As certainly as the LORD your God lives, I have no food, except for a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. Right now I am gathering a couple of sticks for a fire. Then I’m going home to make one final meal for my son and myself. After we have eaten that, we will die of starvation.”Elijah said to her,“ Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you planned. But first make a small cake for me and bring it to me; then make something for yourself and your son.For this is what the LORD God of Israel says,‘ The jar of flour will not be empty and the jug of oil will not run out until the day the LORD makes it rain on the surface of the ground.’”She went and did as Elijah told her; there was always enough food for Elijah and for her and her family.The jar of flour was never empty and the jug of oil never ran out, just as the LORD had promised through Elijah.
