耶穌稍往前走，看見西庇太的兒子雅各，和雅各的弟弟約翰，正在船上整理魚網，他立即呼召他們。他們撇下父親西庇太和雇工在船上，就跟從他去了。

西庇太的兒子雅各，和雅各的弟弟約翰（耶穌給他們二人起名叫半尼其，就是“雷子”的意思），

西門的夥伴，西庇太的兒子雅各、約翰也是這樣。耶穌對西門說：“不要怕！從今以後，你要作得人的漁夫了。”他們把兩隻船攏了岸，撇下一切，跟從了耶穌。

當時西門．彼得、稱為“雙生子”的多馬、加利利的迦拿人拿但業、西庇太的兩個兒子，和另外兩個門徒都聚在一起。

他帶了彼得和西庇太的兩個兒子一起去，心裡憂愁難過，

過了六天，耶穌帶著彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰，領他們悄悄地上了高山。

於是他不許別人跟他一起去，只帶了彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰。

那時，西庇太的兒子的母親，帶著她的兩個兒子前來見耶穌。她跪在耶穌面前求他。耶穌問她：“你想要甚麼？”她說：“求你下令，使我這兩個兒子在你的國裡，一個坐在你的右邊，一個坐在你的左邊。”

用刀殺了約翰的哥哥雅各。
