約翰是點亮的明燈，你們情願因他的光歡欣一時。

約翰對那出來要受他洗的眾人說：「毒蛇的孽種啊，誰指示你們逃避那將要來的憤怒呢？

當時，有一大羣人從加利利、低加坡里、耶路撒冷、猶太、約旦河的東邊，來跟從他。

律法和先知到約翰為止，從此神國的福音傳開了，人人努力要進去。

約翰也在靠近撒冷的哀嫩施洗，因為那裏水多，眾人都去受洗。
