I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.

“ I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

“ I baptize you with water, calling you to turn away from your sins. But after me, someone is coming who is more powerful than I am. I’m not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

“ I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am— so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

“ I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove his sandals. He himself will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

“ As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from within it, by the spirit of justice and by the spirit of burning.

John answered them all,“ I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,

I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say,‘ It is my people;’ and they will say,‘ Yahweh is my God.’”

Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them.They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.

“ But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderers’ soap;and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to Yahweh offerings in righteousness.Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to Yahweh, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years.

As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said,‘ John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit.

He preached, saying,“ After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.I baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.”

They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

not by works of righteousness which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Paul said,“ John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

John answered them,“ I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”

“ A Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from disobedience in Jacob,” says Yahweh.“ As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says Yahweh.“ My Spirit who is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your offspring, nor out of the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says Yahweh,“ from now on and forever.”

I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water said to me,‘ On whomever you will see the Spirit descending and remaining on him is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah,‘ to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.”

John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized;for John was not yet thrown into prison.Therefore a dispute arose on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.They came to John and said to him,“ Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, he baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”John answered,“ A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.You yourselves testify that I said,‘ I am not the Christ,’ but,‘ I have been sent before him.’He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.He must increase, but I must decrease.He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for“ God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and streams on the dry ground. I will pour my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your offspring:

John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.

before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.As John was fulfilling his course, he said,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

Jesus went with them. When he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him,“ Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I am not worthy for you to come under my roof.Therefore I didn’t even think myself worthy to come to you; but say the word, and my servant will be healed.

This is he of whom I said,‘ After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.’

To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for remission of sins.

John testified about him. He cried out, saying,“ This was he of whom I said,‘ He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’”
