Both of them were running. The other disciple ran faster than Peter. He reached the tomb first.He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there. But he did not go in.Then Simon Peter came along behind him. He went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there.He also saw the funeral cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place. It was separate from the linen.The disciple who had reached the tomb first also went inside. He saw and believed.They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.

Jonah was in the belly of a huge fish for three days and three nights. Something like that will happen to the Son of Man. He will spend three days and three nights in the grave.

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples what would happen to him. He told them he must go to Jerusalem. There he must suffer many things from the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law. He must be killed and on the third day rise to life again.

But they didn’t find his body. So they came and told us what they had seen. They saw angels, who said Jesus was alive.

Jesus answered them,“ When you destroy this temple, I will raise it up again in three days.”

They will kill him. On the third day he will rise from the dead.” Then the disciples were filled with deep sadness.
