Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them,“ I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.

Then Peter began to curse and said to them,“ I don’t know the man!” Right away a rooster crowed.

Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear,“ I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed.

Peter swore,“ A curse on me if I’m lying— I don’t know the man!” And immediately the rooster crowed.

Then he started to curse and to swear with an oath,“ I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed,

The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.More than forty men were involved in this plot.They went to the chief priests and the elders and said,“ We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.

If anyone does not love the Lord, let that person be cursed! Come, Lord!

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

We can’t give them our daughters as wives, since we Israelites have taken this oath:‘ Cursed be anyone who gives a wife to a Benjamite.’

Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race,

“ Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter,“ Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”“ Yes, Lord,” he said,“ you know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Feed my lambs.”Again Jesus said,“ Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered,“ Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Take care of my sheep.”The third time he said to him,“ Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time,“ Do you love me?” He said,“ Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Feed my sheep.

Now the Israelites were in distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying,“ Cursed be anyone who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!” So none of the troops tasted food.The entire army entered the woods, and there was honey on the ground.When they went into the woods, they saw the honey oozing out; yet no one put his hand to his mouth, because they feared the oath.But Jonathan had not heard that his father had bound the people with the oath, so he reached out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the honeycomb. He raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.Then one of the soldiers told him,“ Your father bound the army under a strict oath, saying,‘ Cursed be anyone who eats food today!’ That is why the men are faint.”

“ Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered,“ today— yes, tonight— before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.”

All the people answered,“ His blood is on us and on our children!”

Peter replied,“ Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.

said to his mother,“ The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you and about which I heard you utter a curse— I have that silver with me; I took it.” Then his mother said,“ The Lord bless you, my son!”

He began to call down curses, and he swore to them,“ I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him:“ Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

But he denied it.“ I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said, and went out into the entryway.
