Therefore, having obtained help from God, to this day I stand, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses said would come—that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”

Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.And they made His grave with the wicked— But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

“ And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”

Then He answered and told them,“ Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.

Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying,“ This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.”

Then He said to them,“ O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said,“ I thirst!”

Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.I sink in deep mire, Where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters, Where the floods overflow me.I am weary with my crying; My throat is dry; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.Those who hate me without a cause Are more than the hairs of my head; They are mighty who would destroy me, Being my enemies wrongfully; Though I have stolen nothing, I still must restore it.O God, You know my foolishness; And my sins are not hidden from You.Let not those who wait for You, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed because of me; Let not those who seek You be confounded because of me, O God of Israel.Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Shame has covered my face.I have become a stranger to my brothers, And an alien to my mother’s children;Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.When I wept and chastened my soul with fasting, That became my reproach.I also made sackcloth my garment; I became a byword to them.Those who sit in the gate speak against me, And I am the song of the drunkards.But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Lord, in the acceptable time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.Deliver me out of the mire, And let me not sink; Let me be delivered from those who hate me, And out of the deep waters.Let not the floodwater overflow me, Nor let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth on me.Hear me, O Lord, for Your lovingkindness is good; Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in trouble; Hear me speedily.Draw near to my soul, and redeem it; Deliver me because of my enemies.You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor; My adversaries are all before You.Reproach has broken my heart, And I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning?O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; And in the night season, and am not silent.But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel.Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them.They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed.But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised by the people.All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,“ He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!”But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mother’s breasts.I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother’s womb You have been My God.Be not far from Me, For trouble is near; For there is none to help.Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.They gape at Me with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion.I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It has melted within Me.My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death.For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet;I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me.They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.But You, O Lord, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me!Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog.Save Me from the lion’s mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me.I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.You who fear the Lord, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel!For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.My praise shall be of You in the great assembly; I will pay My vows before those who fear Him.The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever!All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You.For the kingdom is the LORD’s, And He rules over the nations.All the prosperous of the earth Shall eat and worship; All those who go down to the dust Shall bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep himself alive.A posterity shall serve Him. It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation,They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, That He has done this.

But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; But I will trust in You.

“ Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus;for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry.”( Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.)“ For it is written in the book of Psalms:‘ Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it’; and,‘ Let another take his office.’

For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him.And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death.Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb.

Set a wicked man over him, And let an accuser stand at his right hand.When he is judged, let him be found guilty, And let his prayer become sin.Let his days be few, And let another take his office.Let his children be fatherless, And his wife a widow.Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; Let them seek their bread also from their desolate places.Let the creditor seize all that he has, And let strangers plunder his labor.Let there be none to extend mercy to him, Nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children.Let his posterity be cut off, And in the generation following let their name be blotted out.Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord, And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.Let them be continually before the Lord, That He may cut off the memory of them from the earth;Because he did not remember to show mercy, But persecuted the poor and needy man, That he might even slay the broken in heart.As he loved cursing, so let it come to him; As he did not delight in blessing, so let it be far from him.As he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, So let it enter his body like water, And like oil into his bones.Let it be to him like the garment which covers him, And for a belt with which he girds himself continually.

So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.

Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;

to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.

“ Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, Against the Man who is My Companion,” Says the Lord of hosts.“ Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered; Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.

“ And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said,“ What is that to us? You see to it!”Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.

They said therefore among themselves,“ Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says:“ They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.” Therefore the soldiers did these things.

Let death seize them; Let them go down alive into hell, For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.

The Lord GOD has opened My ear; And I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn away.I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.

For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled,“ Not one of His bones shall be broken.”And again another Scripture says,“ They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
