自天主聖父視之、純潔無瑕之虔誠、亦曰矜孤恤寡、濟弱扶傾、與夫守身如玉、涅而不緇而已矣。

視被囚者、一若己之被囚。視受苦者、一若己之受苦。

爾中患病者、當邀會中長老、為之祈禱、並因主名為之傅油。至誠篤信之祈禱、必能起沉回生、而其所犯之罪、亦必蒙赦。

兄弟乎、或曰我有信德；苟無善行、亦有何益？徒信詎有濟乎？設有兄弟或姊妹衣食匱乏、而爾謂之曰：『安心以去、吾信汝必得溫飽；』而不給以切身所需之物、則亦何所裨益。

奧乃西弗則屢次予我以寬慰、不以予之縲絏為恥、願主矜恤其闔家大小是祝。渠一抵羅馬即四處探聽我之所在、而惠然來訪、渠實有心人也。吾願其在大審判日、蒙主慈恩。曩在伊法所時、吾如何承其多方照拂固汝所素稔也。

吾以身作則、吾人皆宜親自操作、以濟貧弱；主耶穌嘗曰：「施惠之福、大於受惠；」爾曹其恆念斯言。

爾等不惟體恤囹圄中人、即自己產業之被劫奪、亦能逆來順受、且欣然自樂、固知另有盡善盡美、可大可久之嗣業在也。

當時布百流之父患痢發熱、偃蹇床褥、葆樂為之祈禱、撫其身、病乃霍然。自是島上病者亦相率而至悉獲痊癒、

我作客、而爾不予以接納、我裸、而爾不予以衣、有疾、在獄、而爾不予以探視也、」

此番承爾關懷不勝欣慰感主之至。實則爾錦注已久、特未得機緣以作表示耳、此非予之寒酸語也蓋就予一己言之、實已修得隨遇而安、知足常樂之境。窮約之味、予固知之；寬裕之味、予亦知之；一切境遇、予已窺其堂奧、測其深淺、外物何有於我哉。故溫飽可也、凍餓亦可也；有餘可也、不足亦未始不可也。總之、予恃全能之主、故能應付萬變、遊刃有餘耳。雖然、爾等與我共患難、而濟我之急、爾之所為誠善矣。

對曰：『有二衣者、當與無衣者共之；有食者亦然。』
