and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.

Suppose he begins to beat the other slaves. And suppose he eats and drinks with those who drink too much.

I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints and the blood of those who testified to Jesus. I was greatly astounded when I saw her.

This is what the LORD says:“ The prophets who mislead my people are as good as dead. If someone gives them enough to eat, they offer an oracle of peace. But if someone does not give them food, they are ready to declare war on him.

“ Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are voracious wolves.

You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the choice animals, but you do not feed the sheep!

And do not lord it over those entrusted to you, but be examples to the flock.

Now the priests would always treat the people in the following way: Whenever anyone was making a sacrifice, while the meat was boiling, the priest’s attendant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand.He would jab it into the basin, kettle, caldron, or pot, and everything that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is what they used to do to all the Israelites when they came there to Shiloh.Even before they burned the fat, the priest’s attendant would come and say to the person who was making the sacrifice,“ Hand over some meat for the priest to roast! He won’t take boiled meat from you, but only raw.”If the individual said to him,“ First let the fat be burned away, and then take for yourself whatever you wish,” he would say,“ No! Hand it over right now! If you don’t, I will take it forcibly!”

Each one says,‘ Come on, I’ll get some wine! Let’s guzzle some beer! Tomorrow will be just like today! We’ll have everything we want!’

For you put up with it if someone makes slaves of you, if someone exploits you, if someone takes advantage of you, if someone behaves arrogantly toward you, if someone strikes you in the face.

Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’ (niv)

It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. (niv)

for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.” (niv)

Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. (niv)

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed— an accursed brood! (niv)

For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. (niv)

Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word:“ Your own people who hate you, and exclude you because of my name, have said,‘ Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy!’ Yet they will be put to shame. (niv)

These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm— shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted— twice dead. (niv)

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach— and that for the sake of dishonest gain.One of Crete’s own prophets has said it:“ Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.” (niv)
