For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

A person out in the field must not return home.Remember what happened to Lot’s wife!If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.That night two people will be asleep in one bed; one will be taken, the other left.Two women will be grinding flour together at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.”

The Lord will appear above his people; his arrows will fly like lightning! The Sovereign Lord will sound the ram’s horn and attack like a whirlwind from the southern desert.

“ But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes.

“ When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day.

And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

“ Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives.

People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

And the Lord will make his majestic voice heard. He will display the strength of his mighty arm. It will descend with devouring flames, with cloudbursts, thunderstorms, and huge hailstones.

It rolls across the heavens, and his lightning flashes in every direction.

They will say,“ What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.”

Can you make lightning appear and cause it to strike as you direct?

But Jesus replied,“ Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”

Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said,“ Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?”

You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.
