哀哉法利塞！蓋爾於會堂喜居首席、於市衢樂受人敬也。哀哉爾曹！正如掩埋之墓穴、人履其上而不之覺也。』一明律士進曰：『夫子、爾為是語、亦辱吾儕矣。』耶穌曰：『哀哉明律士！蓋爾曹以難負之任、加人仔肩、而己則不運一指也。哀哉爾曹！蓋爾建先知之塋、而殺先知者、正爾祖也。祖殺先知、而爾築其墓足徵爾實默認乃祖之所為矣。因此天主之妙慧、曾作警言曰：「予遣先知宗徒於若輩有為所害、有為所辱、故自有世以來、眾先知所流之血、咸將歸於斯代。」予誡語爾自亞伯之血、以至被害於殿壇間者撒迦利亞之血、悉將歸咎於斯代也。哀哉明律士！爾曹奪去知識之管籥、己不願進、亦不容人之進也。』耶穌方辭出、經生及法利塞人積怨既深、迫之彌甚、激使多言、欲伺其隙、以為語柄耳。

耶穌又訓曰：『當防經生、若輩喜長服而行、受敬於市、會必高居、宴必首席；

兄弟乎、吾人所信仰景慕者、惟在光榮之主耶穌基督。慎毋以勢利之習氣、沾污爾之信仰。設有一人、金環美服、入爾會堂；同時有一貧人、敝衣而入；爾殷勤謂美服者曰：「請爾上座；」而語貧者曰：「爾且立於斯、或坐我几下；」此豈非以偏心待人、而妄分厚薄乎？

耶穌見所請的客揀擇首位，就用比喻對他們說：「你被人請去赴婚姻的筵席，不要坐在首位上，恐怕有比你尊貴的客被他請來；那請你們的人前來對你說：『讓座給這一位吧！』你就羞羞慚慚地退到末位上去了。你被請的時候，就去坐在末位上，好叫那請你的人來對你說：『朋友，請上座。』那時，你在同席的人面前就有光彩了。因為，凡自高的，必降為卑；自卑的，必升為高。」 (cunpt)

「你們要防備文士。他們好穿長衣遊行，喜愛人在街市上問他們安，又喜愛會堂裏的高位，筵席上的首座；他們侵吞寡婦的家產，假意作很長的禱告。這些人要受更重的刑罰！」 (cunpt)

不要在王面前妄自尊大；不要在大人的位上站立。寧可有人說：請你上來，強如在你覲見的王子面前叫你退下。 (cunpt)

耶穌說：「你要甚麼呢？」她說：「願你叫我這兩個兒子在你國裏，一個坐在你右邊，一個坐在你左邊。」 (cunpt)
